This time it was directed by Rian Johnson, who once collected his first laurels with the insider tip 'Brick' (2005) with Gordon-Levitt, followed up with the crime comedy 'Brothers Bloom' (2008) and celebrated success with the science fiction action film 'Looper' and its stars Bruce Willis and Gordon-Levitt as well as some episodes in the hit series 'Breaking Bad' (2008-2013). The characters:
Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill): After his attempt to unite the Jedi Knights in a new order was thwarted, Luke Skywalker disappeared and sought refuge on the planet Ahch-To. For many years he lived in his modest exile. But now, more than ever, the rebels need their reclusive hero to thwart the dark plans of the First Order.
General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher): On the run from the dark forces that threaten the freedom of the galaxy, General Leia Organa commands the dwindling Rebel fleet. A living legend, she relies on her decades of experience to fight the First Order.
Kylo Ren (Adam Driver): After a painful defeat inflicted on him by scrap collector Rey, Kylo Ren is more determined than ever to destroy the rebels. Within the dark side of the Force, he continues to gain influence, but still has a lot to prove to his mentor, Supreme Leader Snoke.
Rey (Daisy Ridley): While the Force within her is constantly gaining strength, Rey flies to the hidden world of Ahch-To to find Luke Skywalker. The last Jedi Master in the galaxy is also the last hope of the rebels. But instead of the legendary hero, Rey discovers a man who tests her expectations.
Finn (John Boyega): Finn considers it his duty to support the rebels in their courageous fight against the First Order. In the fight for the freedom of the galaxy, the former stormtrooper is ready to give it his all.
Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac): Poe Dameron, ace pilot of the Resistance, leads the squadron of X-wings in the fight against the First Order. He is very daring, but his daredevilism not only tests the patience of the enemy, but also that of the rebel leaders.
Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong'o): Since the destruction of her castle, Maz has been forced to flee and has to assert herself in the criminal underworld. It supports the rebels in the fight against the First Order with all the means at its disposal.
Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis): The opaque commander of the First Order, Supreme Leader Snoke, now steps out of the shadows into the light to achieve final victory.
General Armitage Hux (Domhnall Gleeson): Although the Starkiller base was destroyed by the rebels, under Hux's command they managed to fire a devastating weapon that wiped out the New Republic with a single blow. From the bridge of the Star Destroyer Finalizer, Hux, who reports to Supreme Leader Snoke, leads the chase of the resistance fighters.
C-3PO (Anthony Daniels): The threat from the First Order is a headache for the already constantly worried protocol droid C-3PO. Despite this, he serves General Leia Organa faithfully and loyally.
Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie): Dressed entirely in her distinctive metallic armor, Captain Phasma commands the First Order legions. As a survivor of the attack on the Starkiller base, she still has a very personal score to settle with the rebels.
Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran): Rose is one of the technicians who keep the rebel starfighters airworthy. She has hated the First Order since childhood, now her opportunity has finally come to fight the enemy. She is fully focused on this mission.
Admiral Holdo (Laura Dern): As the commanding officer of a Rebel cruiser, Vice Admiral Holdo has been a loyal ally of General Leia Organa for years. Holdo exudes peaceful self-confidence, but can she dispel the spreading darkness with it?
DJ (Benicio del Toro): DJ is an enigmatic figure. His tattered, torn clothes and seemingly indifferent attitude hide his sharp mind and brilliant skills.
Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo): The loyal companion and co-pilot Chewbacca, a Wookiee, now stands at Rey's side and accompanies her on her search for Luke Skywalker.
