Frank Lehmann (Frederick Lau) wohnt noch bei seinen Eltern in der Neuen Vahr, einer langweiligen Neubausiedlung in Bremen mit Anschluss an die Autobahn. Es ist das Jahr 1980 und Frank wird zur Bundeswehr einberufen. Und das, obwohl er - wie ihm Freunde versichern - 'gar nicht der Typ dafür' sei. Doch Frank hat vergessen zu verweigern. Warum - das weiß er selber nicht. Kaum kommt er nach der ersten Woche beim Bund wieder nach Hause, hat sich sein Vater in Franks Zimmer ausgebreitet. Rettung naht in Form seines alten Schulfreundes Martin. Der bezieht gerade mit zwei Freunden aus der linken Szene eine WG im Ostertorviertel, Bremens alternativem Kiez. Frank mietet kurzerhand das noch unbewohnte Durchgangszimmer. Im Verlauf der Geschichte wird er zum Wandler zwischen den Welten, der linken Chaos-WG, die die proletarische Weltrevolution predigt, und der Bundeswehr mit ihren eigenartigen Regeln, ihrem bedingungslosen Gehorsam und Strammstehen. 'Bloß nicht auffallen', ist sein Motto. Aber das gelingt ihm genau so wenig wie sein Vorhaben, sich jetzt bloß nicht zu verlieben. Das passiert ausgerechnet bei Sibille, der Angebeteten seines besten Freundes Martin.

Frank Lehmann (Frederick Lau) still lives with his parents in the Neue Vahr, a boring new housing estate in Bremen with a connection to the motorway. It is the year 1980 and Frank is called up for the Bundeswehr. And this despite the fact that - as friends assure him - he is 'not the type for it'. But Frank has forgotten to refuse. Why - he doesn't know himself. As soon as he comes home after the first week with the federal government, his father has spread out in Frank's room. Salvation comes in the form of his old school friend Martin. He is currently moving into a shared flat with two friends from the left-wing scene in the Ostertorviertel, Bremen's alternative neighbourhood. Frank rents the still uninhabited walk-through room without further ado. In the course of history, he becomes a wanderer between the worlds, the left-wing chaos flat-share, which preaches the proletarian world revolution, and the Bundeswehr with its peculiar rules, unconditional obedience and standing at attention. 'Just don't attract attention' is his motto. But he succeeds just as little as his plan not to fall in love now. This happens to Sibille, of all people, the beloved of his best friend Martin.
