Ich - Axel Cäsar Springer

Created between 1968 and 1970 as a large-scale production of the 'DEFA' for GDR television at a cost of millions, the 10-hour work 'Ich - Axel Cäsar Springer' is dedicated to the journalistic enemy image of the GDR leadership par excellence: Axel Springer (Horst Drinda), founder and head of the largest newspaper publisher in the Federal Republic. Springer's biography, which was obviously conceived as a propaganda piece, did not take facts very seriously, the goal of unmasking the class enemy justified the generous handling of the truth in the eyes of the makers. With the distance of the decades, the elaborate film adaptation today shows itself to be a document of film history with a star-studded cast that is well worth seeing.
