Der DEFA-Film 'Der Rat der Götter' (1950) thematisiert die Verstrickung der 'IG Farben' in Rüstungsproduktion und Giftgasherstellung für die Konzentrationslager im Dritten Reich. Der kühl kalkulierende Vorstandsvorsitzende Mauch (Paul Bildt) und sein 'Rat der Götter' unterstützen den Aufstieg Hitlers, um an Aufrüstung und Krieg Milliarden zu verdienen. Geschickte, multinationale Abkommen sichern die Rohstoffversorgung auch nach Kriegsbeginn und bewahren das Werk vor dem Bombardement. Sogar die Nürnberger Kriegsverbrecherprozesse überstehen die Verantwortlichen nahezu unbeschadet und bald nach Kriegsende rauchen die Schlote des Werks wieder. Gegenpart des Geheimrats Mauch ist Chemiker Dr. Hans Scholz (Fritz Tillmann), ein fähiger Kopf, der - besorgt um Familie und Stellung - lange nicht wahrhaben will, dass seine Forschungsarbeit Tod und der Vernichtung dient. Er gesteht in Nürnberg als einziger seine Schuld. Nachdem eine Explosion im Werk dem Experten offenbart, dass erneut Sprengstoff und nicht Medikamente hergestellt werden, ist er es, der den friedlichen Neuanfang als Maskerade entlarvt.

The film 'The Council of the Gods' deals with the involvement of 'IG Farben' in armaments production and poison gas production for the concentration camps in the Third Reich: The coolly calculating chairman of the board Mauch (Paul Bildt) and his 'Council of the Gods' support the rise of Hitler in order to earn billions from rearmament and war. Clever, multinational agreements secure the supply of raw materials even after the start of the war and protect the plant from bombing. Those responsible even survived the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials almost unscathed, and soon after the end of the war, the chimneys of the plant were smoking again. Privy Councillor Mauch's counterpart is chemist Dr. Hans Scholz (Fritz Tillmann), a capable mind who - worried about his family and position - does not want to admit for a long time that his research work serves death and destruction. He is the only one in Nuremberg to admit his guilt. After an explosion at the plant reveals to the expert that explosives and not medicines are being produced again, it is he who exposes the peaceful new beginning as a masquerade.
