Bankett für Achilles

Karl Achilles (Erwin Geschonneck), 65 years old, has been working at the Bitterfeld chemical combine for thirty years and is still full of energy, is retiring. Bitterness seizes him on his last day at work, because a younger man, the university graduate Baahre (Carl Heinz Choynski), is already sitting at his workplace for rehearsal. In the evening, division manager Walura (Gert Gütschow) gives a banquet for Achilles for an honorable farewell - along with a bonus and the usual praise. On the way to the party, Achilles destroys his flower bed on the industrial dump out of defiance, in the company of two pensioners he tests the park bench, but he learns to appreciate the time he has regained through his granddaughter. Nothing seems to stand in the way of a cheerful banquet.
