Der mächtigste Mann der Welt alleine in der finnischen Wildnis und seine einzige Hoffnung ist ein Junge, der seinen Mut erst noch finden muss - nicht gerade ideale Voraussetzungen für eine Rettung, dafür umso mehr für ein spannendes Abenteuer mit Nervenkitzel, überzeugenden Darstellern und jeder Menge Action. Der schüchterne 13-jährige Oskari (Onni Tommila) steht vor einer großen Aufgabe: Er muss, wie es die Tradition verlangt, eine Nacht alleine und nur mit Pfeil und Bogen bewaffnet in den finnischen Bergen verbringen. Dort ist es seine Aufgabe, ein Tier zu erlegen. Kehrt er am nächsten Tag mit seiner Beute zurück, hat er bewiesen, dass er nun ein ganzer Mann ist. Keine leichte Aufgabe für den ängstlichen Oskari, denn die Familienehre steht auf dem Spiel und nicht einmal sein eigener Vater glaubt, dass er es schaffen kann. Während sich der Junge also mit großen Versagensängsten auf den Weg macht, wird direkt über ihm die 'Air Force One' Ziel eines Terroranschlags. Mit an Bord: der Präsident der Vereinigten Staaten (Samuel L. Jackson). In letzter Minute gelingt es einem der Leibwächter, diesen in eine Rettungskapsel zu verfrachten, die aus dem Flugzeug geschossen wird. Oskari findet den angeschlagenen Präsidenten, zeigt sich aber wenig beeindruckt. Schließlich ist er entschlossen, seine Mission zu erfüllen. Dem mächtigsten Mann der Welt bleibt also keine Wahl, er muss den Jungen auf seiner Jagd begleiten. Noch ahnen die beiden nicht, dass sie selbst die Beute sind. Denn die Attentäter sind ihnen auf den Fersen und zu allem bereit. Die Jagd ist eröffnet...
Mit 'Big Game' bringt Regisseur Jalmari Helander (siehe im Verleihprogramm: 'Rare Exports' 2010) einen fesselnden Abenteuerfilm mit großartigen Landschaftsaufnahmen und einer wilden Verfolgungsjagd auf die Leinwand. 'Big Game' feierte seine Premiere auf dem Toronto-International-Filmfestival 2014 in Kanada. Der Oscar-nominierte Schauspieler Samuel L. Jackson ('Django Unchained', Marvels 'The Avengers', 'Pulp Fiction') überzeugt in der Hauptrolle des etwas machtlosen Präsidenten. Ihm zur Seite steht der junge Onni Tommila ('Rare Exports'), der als Oskari eine beeindruckende Leistung mit Tiefe und Humor abliefert. Die Schauspielriege wird ergänzt durch Jim Broadbent ('Paddington', 'Harry Potter und die Heiligtümer des Todes', 'Iris') als verschrobener Ex-CIA Agent und den deutschen Schauspieler Mehmet Kurtulus ('Fünf Freunde 4', 'Gegen die Wand') als psychopathischer Extremist. 'Big Game' ist eine finnisch-deutsche Produktion, es ist der größte finnische Film aller Zeiten, noch vor 'Iron Sky', wurde aber komplett 'on location' in Bayern und in den Bavaria-Studios gedreht. Produzent Jens Meurer freut sich über die Zusammenarbeit auf deutschem Boden: "Wir sind stolz, Kult-Regisseur Jalamari Hellander mit seiner aberwitzigen Homage an Steven Spielberg und die Actionklassiker der 80er Jahre - von 'Cliffhanger' bis zu den 'Goonies' - nach Deutschland gebracht zu haben. The most powerful man in the world alone in the Finnish wilderness and his only hope is a boy who has yet to find his courage - not exactly ideal conditions for a rescue, but all the more so for a thrilling adventure with thrills, convincing actors and lots of action. Shy 13-year-old Oskari (Onni Tommila) is faced with a big task: he has to spend a night alone and armed only with a bow and arrow in the Finnish mountains, as tradition demands. There it is his task to kill an animal. If he returns the next day with his prey, he has proven that he is now a whole man. Not an easy task for the anxious Oskari, because the family honor is at stake and not even his own father believes that he can make it. So while the boy sets off with great fear of failure, the 'Air Force One' directly above him becomes the target of a terrorist attack. On board: the President of the United States (Samuel L. Jackson). At the last minute, one of the bodyguards manages to transport him into an escape pod, which is shot out of the plane. Oskari finds the ailing president, but is not impressed. After all, he is determined to fulfill his mission. So the most powerful man in the world has no choice, he has to accompany the boy on his hunt. With 'Big Game', director Jalmari Helander (see in the distribution programme: 'Rare Exports' 2010) brings a captivating adventure film with great landscape shots and a wild chase to the screen. 'Big Game' premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival in Canada. Oscar-nominated actor Samuel L. Jackson ('Django Unchained', Marvel's 'The Avengers', 'Pulp Fiction') convinces in the leading role of the somewhat powerless president. At his side is the young Onni Tommila ('Rare Exports'), who delivers an impressive performance as Oskari with depth and humor. The cast is complemented by Jim Broadbent ('Paddington', 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows', 'Iris') as a cranky ex-CIA agent and German actor Mehmet Kurtulus ('Five Friends 4', 'Head-On') as a psychopathic extremist. 'Big Game' is a Finnish-German production, it is the greatest Finnish film of all time, even before 'Iron Sky', but was shot entirely 'on location' in Bavaria and at the Bavaria Studios. Producer Jens Meurer is pleased about the collaboration on German soil: "We are proud to have brought cult director Jalamari Hellander to Germany with his ludicrous homage to Steven Spielberg and the action classics of the 80s - from 'Cliffhanger' to the 'Goonies'. Great action, big pictures and a big shot of humor." And further: "In addition, for connoisseurs, acting legends such as Victor Garber and Ted Levine - known from films from 'Titanic' to 'The Silence of the Lambs'.
