Da kommt der wortkarge, aber treffsichere Vagabund Silas Selleck (Michael Fassbender), der sich ihm als Wegbegleiter Richtung Westen anbietet, gerade recht. Dass der Fremde dabei auf mehr aus ist als die 100 Dollar, die er für seine Dienste verlangt, ahnt Jay nicht. Denn tatsächlich ist auf seine Angebetete und ihren Vater in der neuen Welt ein hohes Kopfgeld ausgesetzt, und so sind Wölfe und Indianer bald nicht die einzigen, die Jay und Silas durch Prärien und Wälder verfolgen...
Den klassischen Regeln des Western zu folgen und dem Genre gleichzeitig zu frischem Wind und einem modernen Anstrich zu verhelfen - dieses bemerkenswerte Kunststück gelingt 'Slow West' auf spannende und unterhaltsame Weise. Die Hauptrolle der ebenso bildgewaltigen wie poetischen Geschichte spielt Shooting-Star Kodi Smit-McPhee, der mit der Bestseller-Verfilmung 'The Road' bekannt wurde und zuletzt in 'Planet der Affen - Revolution' zu sehen war. Tatkräftige und bisweilen undurchsichtige Unterstützung bekommt er dabei vom Oscar-nominierten Michael Fassbender, der nach Filmen wie 'Shame' (2011), 'Prometheus' (2012) oder '12 Years a Slave' (2013) seine Karriere mit 'Slow West' (2015) um eine faszinierende neue Facette ergänzt. Als exzentrischer Kopfgeldjäger ist außerdem Ben Mendelsohn ('Killing Them Softly', 'Exodus - Könige und Götter') mit von der Partie. Für den Schotten John Maclean, seines Zeichens Gründungsmitglied der erfolgreichen Indie-Band 'The Beta Band', stellt 'Slow West' sein Kinodebüt dar. Zuvor hatte der Regisseur und Drehbuchautor für den Kurzfilm 'Pitch Black Heist' bereits einen BAFTA-Award gewonnen. Seine Weltpremiere feierte 'Slow West' 2015 beim Sundance-Filmfestival, wo er mit dem 'Grand Jury Prize' ausgezeichnet wurde. Anschließend war 'Slow West' auch bei 'Tribeca' und zahlreichen weiteren Festivals zu sehen. Produziert wurde der Film unter anderem von Iain Canning und Emil Sherman, den Oscar-prämierten Produzenten von 'The King's Speech' und 'Shame'.

For the Scotsman John Maclean, founding member of the successful indie band 'The Beta Band', 'Slow West' represents his cinema debut. Previously, the director and screenwriter had already won a BAFTA Award for the short film 'Pitch Black Heist'. 'Slow West' celebrated its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015, where it was awarded the 'Grand Jury Prize'.
