Südtirol, 1961. Die norditalienische Region wird durch eine Serie von separatistischen Bombenanschlägen erschüttert. Während der junge Bauernsohn Paul (Thomas Prenn) der Perspektivlosigkeit seines Dorfes entkommen und Malerei studieren will, kämpft sein älterer Bruder Anton (Laurence Rupp) kompromisslos für den Schutz der deutschsprachigen Minderheit - notfalls mit Gewalt. Nachdem Anton als einer der Attentäter enttarnt wird, flieht er und lässt Hof und Familie zurück. Widerwillig verschiebt Paul seine eigenen Pläne, um Antons Frau Anna (Aenne Schwarz) und ihren kleinen Sohn zu unterstützen. Während die Lage eskaliert und die italienische Polizei hart durchgreift, beginnt Anna sich zunehmend gegen die patriarchalen Strukturen ihres Umfelds zu wehren. Paul hingegen muss sich entscheiden - zwischen familiärer Loyalität und persönlicher Selbstverwirklichung...

South Tyrol, 1961. The northern Italian region is shaken by a series of separatist bombings. While the young farmer's son Paul (Thomas Prenn) wants to escape the lack of prospects in his village and study painting, his older brother Anton (Laurence Rupp) fights uncompromisingly for the protection of the German-speaking minority - by force if necessary. After Anton is unmasked as one of the assassins, he flees, leaving his farm and family behind. Reluctantly, Paul postpones his own plans to support Anton's wife Anna (Aenne Schwarz) and their young son. As the situation escalates and the Italian police crack down, Anna increasingly begins to defend herself against the patriarchal structures of her environment.
