'Lara' erzählt von Musik, verlorenen Träumen und einem besonderen Mutter-Sohn-Verhältnis: Es ist Laras (Corinna Harfouch) sechzigster Geburtstag, und eigentlich hätte sie allen Grund zur Freude, denn ihr Sohn Viktor (Tom Schilling) gibt an diesem Abend das wichtigste Klavierkonzert seiner Karriere. Schließlich war sie es, die seinen musikalischen Werdegang entworfen und forciert hat. Doch Viktor ist schon seit Wochen nicht mehr erreichbar und nichts deutet darauf hin, dass Lara bei seiner Uraufführung willkommen ist. Kurzerhand kauft sie sämtliche Restkarten und verteilt sie an jeden, dem sie an diesem Tag begegnet. Doch je mehr Lara um einen gelungenen Abend ringt, desto mehr geraten die Geschehnisse außer Kontrolle...
Für 'Lara' (2019), Jan Ole Gersters erste Regiearbeit nach seinem erfolgreichen Debüt-Spielfilm 'Oh Boy' (2012), der mit sechs 'Lolas' ausgezeichnet wurde, versammeln sich ein eindrucksvolles Ensemble und Filmteam: In den Hauptrollen sind Corinna Harfouch (aus 'Der Fall Bruckner', 'Was bleibt' oder 'Der Untergang') und Tom Schilling ('Werk ohne Autor', 'Goldfische', 'Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter', 'Oh Boy') besetzt, begleitet u.a. von Rainer Bock, Volkmar Kleinert, André Jung und Mala Emde. Der mehrfach ausgezeichnete Kameramann Frank Griebe (siehe '25 km/h', 'Babylon Berlin', 'Das Parfüm') steht für die visuelle Umsetzung. Produziert wurde der Film abermals von Marcos Kantis für 'Schiwago Film', in Ko-Produktion mit 'Studiocanal Film'. Das Drehbuch, ausgezeichnet mit dem MEDIA-New-Talent-Award der Europäischen Union, entwickelte der slowenische Autor, Fotokünstler und Filmemacher Blaz Kutin in Zusammenarbeit mit dem 'TorinoFilmLab'. Die Musik zum Film komponierte der preisgekrönte Musiker Arash Safaian (u.a. 'Echo Klassik') und wurde von der deutsch-japanischen Star-Pianistin Alice Sara Ott eingespielt. 'Lara' wurde gefördert von Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Deutscher Filmförderfonds, Filmförderungsanstalt, der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien, Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung in Koproduktion mit dem Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb, Redakteurin: Cooky Ziesche), dem Bayerischen Rundfunk (BR, Redakteurin: Claudia Simionescu) und ARTE (Redakteure: Andreas Schreitmüller & Manuel Tanner). 'Lara' entstand im Rahmen der Filminitiative 'Leuchtstoff' von 'rbb' und Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.

'Lara' tells of music, lost dreams and a special mother-son relationship: It is Lara's (Corinna Harfouch) sixtieth birthday, and she would actually have every reason to be happy, because her son Viktor (Tom Schilling) is giving the most important piano concert of his career that evening. After all, it was she who designed and accelerated his musical career. But Viktor has not been available for weeks and there is nothing to indicate that Lara is welcome at his premiere. Without further ado, she buys all the remaining tickets and distributes them to everyone she meets that day. But the more Lara struggles to have a successful evening, the more events get out of control...
For 'Lara' (2019), Jan Ole Gerster's first directorial work after his successful debut feature film 'Oh Boy' (2012), which was awarded six 'Lolas', an impressive ensemble and film team are assembled: Corinna Harfouch (from 'The Bruckner Case', 'Was bleibt' or 'Der Untergang') and Tom Schilling ('Werk ohne Autor', 'Goldfische', 'Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter', 'Oh Boy') are cast in the leading roles, accompanied by Rainer Bock, Volkmar Kleinert, André Jung and Mala Emde, among others. The multi-award-winning cinematographer Frank Griebe (see '25 km/h', 'Babylon Berlin', 'Das Parfüm') stands for the visual implementation. The film was once again produced by Marcos Kantis for 'Zhivago Film', in co-production with 'Studiocanal Film'. The screenplay, which won the MEDIA New Talent Award of the European Union, was developed by Slovenian author, photo artist and filmmaker Blaz Kutin in collaboration with the 'TorinoFilmLab'. The music for the film was composed by the award-winning musician Arash Safaian ('Echo Klassik', among others) and was recorded by the German-Japanese star pianist Alice Sara Ott. 'Lara' was funded by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the German Film Fund, the German Federal Film Board, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung in co-production with Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb, editor: Cooky Ziesche), Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR, editor: Claudia Simionescu) and ARTE (editors: Andreas Schreitmüller & Manuel Tanner). 'Lara' was created as part of the film initiative 'Leuchtstoff' by 'rbb' and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.
