'De son vivant - In Liebe lassen' (2021) ist die zweite Zusammenarbeit der preisgekrönten Regisseurin, Schauspielerin und Autorin Emmanuelle Bercot ('La tête haute - Standing Tall' 2015) mit Catherine Deneuve und Benoît Magimel. Eigens für ihre Stars schrieb sie mit ihrer Co-Autorin Marcia Romano das Drehbuch für das einfühlsame und zutiefst menschliche Familiendrama. Der Cast wird vervollständigt durch Cécile de France ('The French Dispatch') und den New Yorker Onkologen und Laiendarsteller Dr. Gabriel A. Sara, den Bercot während einer US-Tournee kennenlernte. Sein medizinischer Ansatz und seine persönliche Präsenz faszinierten sie so stark, dass sie ihn mit einer der Hauptrollen betraute. 'In Liebe lassen' feierte seine Premiere im Wettbewerb der 74. Internationalen Filmfestspielen in Cannes außer Konkurrenz.

A son who denies his serious illness. A mother who is confronted with the unbearable and a doctor who will help them make peace with the inevitable: acting teacher Benjamin Boltanski (Benoît Magimel) is appreciated and loved by his students because he helps them to penetrate to their innermost feelings and fears and to use them creatively. Something that the 40-year-old himself does not succeed in when he learns that he is terminally ill with cancer. 'De son vivant - Leave in love' (2021) is the second collaboration between award-winning director, actress and writer Emmanuelle Bercot ('La tête haute - Standing Tall' 2015) with Catherine Deneuve and Benoît Magimel. Together with her co-writer Marcia Romano, she wrote the screenplay for the sensitive and deeply human family drama especially for her stars. The cast is completed by Cécile de France ('The French Dispatch') and New York oncologist and amateur actor Dr. Gabriel A. Sara, whom Bercot met during a US tour. His medical approach and personal presence fascinated her so much that she entrusted him with one of the leading roles. 'Let In Love' celebrated its premiere in competition at the 74th Cannes International Film Festival out of competition.
