Jedenfalls für das frischvermählte Ehepaar Florence und Edward Mayhew, das 1962 am Strand von 'Chesil Beach' im englischen 'Dorset' seine Flitterwochen verbringen möchte. Mit 'Am Strand', der Verfilmung des 2007 erschienenen Romans 'On Chesil Beach' von Bestseller-Autor Ian McEwan (siehe auch 'Der Zementgarten', 'Abbitte' und 'Solar') über die Beziehung eines jungen Paares, das im Käfig seiner Zeit und seiner Erziehung gefangen ist, legt der renommierte britische Theaterregisseur Dominic Cooke sein Kinospielfilmdebüt vor. McEwan, der am Tag des deutschen Kinostarts seinen 70. Geburtstag feierte, lieferte auch das Drehbuch zu dem Liebesfilm. In detailreicher Ausstattung entwirft Cooke in 'Am Strand' nicht nur ein Gesellschaftsporträt der 1960er Jahre, sondern erzählt eine universelle Geschichte über Liebe und Selbstfindung, Begierde und Angst - und über die Unerbittlichkeit des Schicksals. Neben der Neuentdeckung Billy Howle (aus 'Dunkirk' und 'Vom Ende einer Geschichte') überzeugt die im Erscheinunsjahr 2018 mit dem 'Golden Globe' ausgezeichnete, Oscar-nominierte irisch-amerikanische Schauspielerin Saoirse Ronan (aus 'Brooklyn' und 'Ladybird') als selbstbewusste, sensible Musikerin Florence. Schon einmal war sie in der Verfilmung eines Romans von Ian McEwan und zu sehen und erhielt für ihre Rolle in 'Abbitte' (2007) eine Oscar-Nominierung.
