Als durch einen Regierungserlass alle Hunde der Stadt 'Megasaki City' auf eine riesige Mülldeponie verbannt werden, macht sich Atari allein in einem Miniatur-Junior-Turboprop auf den Weg und fliegt nach 'Trash Island' auf der Suche nach seinem Bodyguard-Hund Spots. Dort freundet er sich mit einem Rudel Mischlingshunde an und bricht mit ihrer Hilfe zu einer epischen Reise auf, die das Schicksal und die Zukunft der ganzen Präfektur entscheiden wird...
Zum Auftakt der 68. Internationalen Filmfestspiele Berlin am 15. Februar 2018 feierte Wes Andersons Animationsfilm 'Isle of Dogs' seine Weltpremiere im Berlinale-Palast. Zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte des Festivals eröffnete somit ein Animationsfilm das offizielle Programm des Wettbewerbs. Der Ausnahmeregisseur, Drehbuchautor und Produzent hatte 2014 mit 'Grand Budapest Hotel' ('Silberner Bär' prämiert mit dem großen Preis der Jury) ebenfalls die Internationalen Filmfestspiele in Berlin eröffnet, zuvor waren seine Filme 'Die Royal Tenenbaums' (2002) und 'Die Tiefseetaucher' (2005) im Wettbewerb gezeigt worden. Anderson hat diesmal ein Starensemble für die Stimmen seiner Figuren gewonnen: Bryan Cranston, Koyu Rankin, Edward Norton, Liev Schreiber, Bill Murray, Bob Balaban, Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johansson, Kunichi Nomura, Tilda Swinton, Ken Watanabe, Akira Ito, Greta Gerwig, Akira Takayama, Frances McDormand, F. Murray Abraham, Courtney B. Vance, Yôjirô Noda, Fisher Stevens, Mari Natsuki, Nijirô Murakami, Yoko Ono, Harvey Keitel und Frank Wood. Nach ihrer Zusammenarbeit bei 'Grand Budapest Hotel' sind Wes Anderson, Scott Rudin, Steven Rales und Jeremy Dawson als Produzenten von 'Isle of Dogs' (2018) wieder vereint. Der Film wurde von 'Indian Paintbrush' produziert und in den '3 Mills Studios' in London gedreht. Christoph Fisser, Henning Molfenter und Charlie Woebcken vom 'Studio Babelsberg' waren Executive-Producer, 'Fox Searchlight Pictures' bringt den Film in Kooperation mit 'Indian Paintbrush' weltweit heraus. 'Isle of Dogs - Ataris Reise' feierte seine Premiere auf der Berlinale am 15. Februar 2018 und startete anschließend am 3. Mai 2018 bundesweit in den deutschen Kinos.

'Isle of Dogs - Atari's Journey' tells the story of Atari Kobayashi, the 12-year-old foster son of the corrupt mayor Kobayashi. At the start of the 68th Berlin International Film Festival on February 15, 2018, Wes Anderson's animated film 'Isle of Dogs' celebrated its world premiere at the Berlinale Palast. For the first time in the history of the festival, an animated film opened the official programme of the competition. The exceptional director, screenwriter and producer had also opened the Berlin International Film Festival in 2014 with 'Grand Budapest Hotel' ('Silver Bear' awarded the Grand Jury Prize), before his films 'The Royal Tenenbaums' (2002) and 'The Deep Sea Divers' (2005) had been shown in competition. 'Isle of Dogs - Atari's Journey' premiered at the Berlinale on February 15, 2018 and then started in German cinemas nationwide on May 3, 2018.
