Sonja Schadt (Josefine Preuß), deren Familie mit Hotelgründer Lorenz Adlon (Burghart Klaußner) persönlich und geschäftlich eng verbunden ist, zieht nach dem Tod ihrer Großeltern ins Hotel - und bleibt. Der Juniorchef Louis Adlon (Heino Ferch) und seine geschäftstüchtige zweite Frau Hedda (Marie Bäumer) gehören bald ebenso zu ihrer 'Familie' wie das lebenslustige Telefonfräulein Margarete (Katharina Wackernagel) und der Concierge Friedrich (Wotan Wilke Möhring). In den turbulenten und ausschweifenden Zwanziger Jahren feiert das Hotel seine Goldene Ära und Sonja ist mittendrin.
