Manchmal sind es nur Momente in unserer Kindheit, die unser gesamtes restliches Leben bestimmen. Für Alice (Alba Rohrwacher) war es ein Unfall beim Skifahren - ein kurzer Moment nur, der ihr eine bleibende Verletzung zufügt und ihr ihre Unbeschwertheit und das Vertrauen zu ihrem Vater nimmt. Für Mattia (Luca Marinelli) war es der Moment, als er seine Zwillingsschwester Michela verlor. Nur ein einziges Mal hatte er nicht auf seine Mutter (Isabella Rossellini) gehört und Michelas Hilfsbedürftigkeit missachtet. Die Schuldgefühle, die ihn seither quälen, bewahrt er tief in seinem Inneren. Basierend auf dem gleichnamigen Roman von Paolo Giordano erzählt 'Die Einsamkeit der Primzahlen' (2011) von zwei Menschen, Alice und Mattia, die füreinander bestimmt zu sein scheinen, ihren Weg zueinander jedoch nicht finden können. Sometimes it's just moments in our childhood that determine the rest of our lives. For Alice (Alba Rohrwacher) it was an accident while skiing - just a brief moment that inflicts a permanent injury on her and takes away her lightheartedness and trust in her father.
