Eigentlich wollte Eva Molin (Susanne Gärtner) mit ihrer Tochter Annika (Cleo-Johanna Budde) Urlaub machen, aber ein wichtiger Auftrag zwingt die junge Kunsthistorikerin für ein Auktionshaus zu einer Wertschätzung der Kunstsammlung auf Schloss 'Katarinaberg'. Nun muss sie aus der Not eine Tugend machen, denn sie will die gemeinsamen Tage mit Annika nicht verschieben, die seit dem Unfalltod ihres Vaters traumatisiert ist. Annika zog sich nach dem Unfall immer mehr in sich zurück und spricht seitdem nicht mehr. Auf Schloss Katarinaberg stellt Eva rasch fest, dass Gutsherr Ulf Norquist (Volkert Kraeft) in Geldnöten steckt und seine Kunstsammlung verkaufen muss. Das hat er aber sogar vor seinem Sohn Peter (Stephan Luca) geheimgehalten, der als Arzt und Pferdezüchter in der Nachbarschaft lebt. Und während ihre Mutter, die sie als Begleitung für Annika mitgenommen hat, die Gründe für Ulfs finanzielle Misere aufdeckt, fällt Eva auf, dass der Umgang mit den Pferden ihrer Tochter gut tut. Annika fasst wieder Vertrauen und Mut. Und auch Eva und Peter kommen sich näher und verlieben sich ineinander. Doch als Peter erfährt, dass Eva im Auftrag eines Auktionshauses auf dem Schloss arbeitet, missversteht er die Situation und fühlt sich von ihr hintergangen. Eva muss sich zwischen ihrer Arbeit und ihren Gefühlen entscheiden.

Eva Molin (Susanne Gärtner) actually wanted to go on vacation with her daughter Annika (Cleo-Johanna Budde), but an important assignment for an auction house forces the young art historian to appraise the art collection at 'Katarinaberg' Castle. Now she has to make a virtue out of necessity, because she does not want to postpone the days she spent together with Annika, who has been traumatized since the accidental death of her father. Annika withdrew more and more into herself after the accident and has not spoken since. At Katarinaberg Castle, Eva quickly realizes that landlord Ulf Norquist (Volkert Kraeft) is in financial trouble and has to sell his art collection. But he has even kept this secret from his son Peter (Stephan Luca), who lives in the neighborhood as a doctor and horse breeder. And while her mother, who has taken her with her as a companion for Annika, uncovers the reasons for Ulf's financial misery, Eva notices that dealing with the horses is good for her daughter. Annika regains confidence and courage. And Eva and Peter also get closer and fall in love. But when Peter learns that Eva is working at the castle on behalf of an auction house, he misunderstands the situation and feels betrayed by her. Eva has to choose between her work and her feelings.
