Nummer 8, Architekt und Familienvater, hat seine Zweifel. Das löst Empörung bei einigen Mitgeschworenen aus, die möglichst schnell ein Urteil finden wollen, um den Prozess rasch zu beenden. Nach leidenschaftlich geführten Diskussionen schließen sich jedoch immer mehr Geschworene der Meinung des Quertreibers an, der die Tat nochmals Revue passieren lässt. Seine Darstellungen decken schließlich Lücken und Ungereimtheiten im Tathergang auf und lassen die Zeugenaussagen mehr als fraglich erscheinen...
Reginald Roses zeitlos origineller Stoff wurde nach dem Klassiker von 1957 und dem deutschen Fernsehfilm von 1963 aus der 'Straßenfeger' Reihe mit vorliegendem Film kongenial neuverfilmt. Die Pressestimmen waren sich einig, dass das Remake ins Schwarze trifft. William Friedkins Film war in vielen Kategorien für zahlreiche Preise nominiert, zum Beispiel für den 'Golden Globe', den 'Emmy', oder den 'Screen Actors Guild Award'. George C. Scott gewann 1998 sowohl den 'Golden Globe' als auch den 'Emmy' für seine Darstellung. Atemberaubend ist neben der Handlung auch die Besetzung, denn neben George C. Scott sind weitere Topstars wie Armin Mueller-Stahl und Jack Lemmon zu sehen.

The congenial TV remake of the classic with an absolute star cast such as Jack Lemmon and George C. Scott: Did an 18-year-old immigrant from the slums murder his father in cold blood? Twelve jurors must reach a unanimous verdict in the trial. At first, the guilty verdict seems to be as good as fixed on the basis of two clear witness statements. In the first vote, however, only eleven of the twelve jurors voted guilty. Number 8, architect and family man, has his doubts. This triggers outrage among some of the jury's members, who want to find a verdict as quickly as possible in order to end the trial quickly. After passionate discussions, however, more and more jurors agree with the opinion of the troublemaker, who reviews the crime once again. His accounts finally uncover gaps and inconsistencies in the course of the crime and make the witness statements seem more than questionable...
Reginald Rose's timelessly original material has been congenially remade with this film after the classic from 1957 and the German television film from 1963 from the 'Straßenfeger' series. The press was unanimous that the remake hits the mark. William Friedkin's film was nominated for numerous awards in many categories, for example the 'Golden Globe', the 'Emmy', or the 'Screen Actors Guild Award'. George C. Scott won both the Golden Globe and the Emmy in 1998 for his performance. In addition to the plot, the cast is also breathtaking, because in addition to George C.
