Im Mittelpunkt dieser deutschen Krimiserie steht die Kommissarin Bella Block, eine erfahrene und engagierte Polizistin, gespielt von Hannelore Hoger. Kommissarin zu sein ist für sie nicht nur ihr Job sondern eine Berufung, die nicht nach Dienstschluss an der Bürotür endet. Sie schreckt nicht vor Konfrontationen zurück und löst, dank ihrer Sturheit und ihrem spröden Charme, so manch kniffligen Fall. Ihr Privatleben genießt sie hingegen mit ihrem Lebensgefährten Simon Abendroth alias Rudolf Kowalski und ist von einem guten Buch, zusammen mit einem Glas Wein nicht abgeneigt. In den einzelnen Episoden werden oft schwierige und umstrittene Themen, wie Vergewaltigung, sexueller Missbrauch und Korruption angesprochen.
01. 'Schuld und Liebe' (2001, Regie: Sherry Hormann): Als der 18. Geburtstag von Lis Ellermann (Cosma Shiva Hagen) in Handgreiflichkeiten ausartet, erwacht in ihr die Polizistin. Bella findet heraus, dass Pfarrer Daniel (Herbert Knaup), Lis' gutmütiger aber jähzorniger Onkel, vor einem Familiendrama geflohen ist. Das Motiv zu seiner Wahnsinnstat findet sie in Hamburg.
02. 'Bitterer Verdacht' (2001, Regie: Dagmar Hirtz): Eine Studentin wird nach einer Party ermordet aufgefunden. Als die Spur zu Professor Bartels (André Jung) Sohn Benedikt (Christian Näthe) führt, nutzt sein Vater seine Kontakte zum Staatsanwalt. Kommissarin Block deckt ein Familiengeheimnis auf und überführt den wahren Mörder.
03. 'Hinter den Spiegeln' (2004, Regie: Thorsten Näter): Auf dem Weg in ein Restaurant stolpert Bella über eine Leiche. Nach ein paar Schrecksekunden erkennt sie jedoch, dass sie einem Mordmysterie-Spiel, bei dem ein fiktiver Mordfall gelöste werden soll, aufgesessen ist. Wenig später gibt es tatsächlich eine Leiche und Bella beginnt zu ermitteln.
04. 'Die Freiheit der Wölfe' (2004, Regie: Christian von Castelberg): Eine Krankenschwester wird ermordet. Bella Block vermutet einen Zusammenhang mit einem Serienmörder, der am selben Tag aus dem Maßregelvollzug geflohen ist. Als sie erfährt, dass das Mordopfer vor kurzem eine Abtreibung hat vornehmen lassen und sie herausfindet, wer der Vater des Kindes war, wird der Fall komplizierter als erwartet.

At the center of this German crime series is Inspector Bella Block, an experienced and committed police officer, played by Hannelore Hoger. She does not shy away from confrontation and, thanks to her stubbornness and brittle charm, solves many a tricky case. On the other hand, she enjoys her private life with her partner Simon Abendroth alias Rudolf Kowalski and is not averse to a good book together with a glass of wine. In the individual episodes, difficult and controversial topics such as rape, sexual abuse and corruption are often addressed.
01. 'Guilt and Love' (2001, Director: Sherry Hormann): When Lis Ellermann's (Cosma Shiva Hagen) 18th birthday degenerates into fisticuffs, the policewoman awakens in her. Bella finds out that Pastor Daniel (Herbert Knaup), Lis' good-natured but irascible uncle, has fled from a family drama. She finds the motive for his act of madness in Hamburg.
02. 'Bitterer Verdacht' (2001, directed by Dagmar Hirtz): A student is found murdered after a party. When the trail leads to Professor Bartel's (André Jung) son Benedikt (Christian Näthe), his father uses his contacts with the public prosecutor. Inspector Block uncovers a family secret and convicts the real murderer.
03. 'Behind the Looking Glass' (2004, Director: Thorsten Näter): On the way to a restaurant, Bella stumbles over a corpse. After a few seconds of shock, however, she realizes that she has fallen for a murder mystery game in which a fictitious murder case is to be solved. A little later, there is actually a body and Bella begins to investigate.
04. 'The Freedom of the Wolves' (2004, Director: Christian von Castelberg): A nurse is murdered. Bella Block suspects a connection with a serial killer who escaped from the correctional facility on the same day. When she learns that the murder victim has recently had an abortion and she finds out who the father of the child was, the case becomes more complicated than expected.
