Dafür, dass die Natur nicht nur schöne Dinge zu erschaffen vermag, könnte exemplarisch der Anglerfisch stehen, eine Raubfischart, die an Hässlichkeit nur schwer zu überbieten ist. Der Lebensraum der Anglerfische sind die dunkelsten Tiefen des Meeres - normalerweise. Doch ein außergewöhnlich großes und offenbar mutiertes Exemplar dieser Gattung sucht sich seine Beute nun auch oberhalb des Meeresspiegels und macht dabei auch nicht vor Menschen halt. Als der Fischer Will McKenna (Corin Nemec) ein Mitglied seiner Crew an dieses Biest verliert, glaubt ihm erst keiner. Doch dieses Monster braucht noch mehr Nahrung für sich und seine Brut, was schlechte Zeiten für die Bewohner der Küste bedeutet. Will macht sich zusammen mit der Biologin Arden (Camille Sullivan) auf die Jagd nach dem Monster und dessen nicht minder gefährlichen Nachkommen. Dabei hat das 'Sea Beast' einen bevorzugten Platz zur Nahrungsaufnahme: eine kleine Halbinsel, auf der sich gerade Wills Tochter und deren Freund befindet...

The fact that nature is not only able to create beautiful things could be exemplified by the frogfish, a predatory fish species that is difficult to surpass in ugliness. The habitat of frogfish is the darkest depths of the sea - usually. But an exceptionally large and apparently mutated specimen of this genus is now looking for its prey above sea level and does not stop at humans. When fisherman Will McKenna (Corin Nemec) loses a member of his crew to this beast, no one believes him at first. But this monster needs even more food for itself and its brood, which means bad times for the inhabitants of the coast. Together with biologist Arden (Camille Sullivan), Will sets out to hunt down the monster and its no less dangerous descendants. The 'Sea Beast' has a privileged place to feed: a small peninsula where Will's daughter and her boyfriend are currently located...
