Eigentlich war der charmante Herr Theo Farina (Heinz Rühmann) ein eingeschworener Junggeselle, bis zu dem Tag, als er die reizende Helene Barbock (Herti Kirchner) traf. Plötzlich kann es ihm gar nicht schnell genug gehen mit der Hochzeit. Ausgerechnet am Tag der Trauung passiert ihm ein schicksalhaftes Malheur: Das Pferd seiner Droschke frisst einer eleganten Dame ihren teuren Florentiner Hut direkt vom Kopf herunter. Es gibt ein großes Gezeter und die Frau besteht darauf, dass Farina ihr noch am gleichen Tage einen neuen Florentiner Hut besorgt. Jetzt muss Farina den Drahtseilakt bewältigen und zwischen Standesamt, Hochzeitsfeier und Hutgeschäft hin- und her hetzen, um einen Florentiner Hut aufzutreiben. Als er erfährt, dass nur die Baronin Champigny (Elsa Wagner) noch eine solche Kopfbedeckung besitzt, heißt es nichts wie hin zum Schloss der Dame. Unter einem Vorwand gelangt er in die Gemächer der Baronin, doch währenddessen fällt die gesamte Hochzeitsgesellschaft im Schloss ein, in dem Glauben, es handele sich um Farinas Haus. Da muss der liebe Farina sich schon einiges einfallen lassen, um aus diesem Schlamassel wieder herauszukommen.

Actually, the charming Mr. Theo Farina (Heinz Rühmann) was a sworn bachelor until the day he met the charming Helene Barbock (Herti Kirchner). Suddenly, the wedding can't go fast enough for him. On the day of the wedding, of all days, a fateful mishap happens to him: the horse of his cab eats an elegant lady's expensive Florentine hat directly off her head. There is a big clamor and the woman insists that Farina get her a new Florentine hat on the same day. Now Farina has to walk the tightrope and rush back and forth between the registry office, wedding celebration and hat shop to find a Florentine hat. When he learns that only Baroness Champigny (Elsa Wagner) still has such a headdress, it's all about going to the lady's castle. Under a pretext, he gets into the baroness's apartments, but in the meantime the entire wedding party invades the castle, believing that it is Farina's house. Dear Farina has to come up with a lot of ideas to get out of this mess.
