Da ist das, was ihr gemeinsames Leben war, schon in weite Ferne gerückt. Bisher hat dies außer ihnen beiden noch niemand bemerkt, auch nicht ihre Kinder, die ihre Eltern in den Vorbereitungen für ihren Hochzeitstag wähnen. Was ist passiert in der heilen Welt von Meredith und André in ihrer mustergültigen Schweizer Idylle? Meredith hat völlig überraschend herausgefunden, dass ihr Mann regelmäßig in ein Bordell geht und sexuelle Praktiken pflegt, die er zu Hause mit ihr nicht auslebt. Der Verdacht gegen ihren Mann rührt von einer schockierenden Diagnose, die ihr Arzt ihr eröffnet: Meredith ist HIV-positiv und nach der ersten Starre kommt sie zu dem Schluss, dass nur ihr Mann sie angesteckt haben kann. Sie konfrontiert André mit der Diagnose und wirft ihn aus dem Haus. Doch Meredith, die ihr Leben gänzlich an der Fürsorge ihrer Familie orientierte, erträgt das Alleinsein kaum. Nach heftigem Streit lässt sie schließlich Andrés Rückkehr zu. Dieser weiß mittlerweile, dass auch er HIV-positiv ist. Sie beschließen, die Verwerfungen und die Krankheit gemeinsam zu bewältigen. Je näher die Hochzeitsfeier rückt, desto brüchiger scheint jene Ehe, die da gefeiert werden soll. Nur noch in seltenen Momenten blitzt ihre tiefe Verbindung, die sie zueinander hatten, auf. Mutig, wütend und hoffend, spürt Meredith, eine gemeinsame Zukunft kann es nur geben, wenn sie André restlos verzeiht. Doch wie viel Verletzung hält Liebe aus?

"I miss our old life," an exhausted and perplexed Meredith (Barbara Auer) says at some point to her husband André (Robert Hunger-Bühler). By then, what was their life together has already receded into the distance. So far, no one except the two of them has noticed this, not even their children, whom their parents think are preparing for their wedding day. What happened in the ideal world of Meredith and André in their exemplary Swiss idyll? Meredith is surprised to find out that her husband regularly goes to a brothel and engages in sexual practices that he doesn't do with her at home. The suspicion against her husband stems from a shocking diagnosis that her doctor reveals to her: Meredith is HIV-positive and after the initial rigidity, she comes to the conclusion that only her husband could have infected her. She confronts André with the diagnosis and throws him out of the house. But Meredith, who has focused her life entirely on the care of her family, can hardly bear being alone. After a fierce argument, she finally allows André to return. He now knows that he is also HIV-positive. They decide to overcome the upheavals and the illness together. The closer the wedding celebration gets, the more fragile the marriage that is to be celebrated seems. Only in rare moments does the deep connection they had to each other flash. Courageous, angry and hopeful, Meredith feels that there can only be a future together if she completely forgives André. But how much injury can love withstand?
