Die schillernde Existenz von Bobbys Bronx-Familie ist eine funkelnde Liebeserklärung an die Filmstars, Salonlöwen, Playboys, Debütantinnen, Politiker und Gangster, die das überbordende Lebensgefühl und den Glamour jener Ära verkörperten. Bobbys Familie besteht aus den stets gnadenlos zerstrittenen Eltern Rose (Jeannie Berlin) und Marty (Ken Stott), seinem lässig amoralischen Gangster-Bruder Ben (Corey Stoll), seiner gutherzigen Lehrerin-Schwester Evelyn (Sari Lennick) und ihrem vergeistigten Mann Leonard (Stephen Kunken). Der auf Krawall gebürstete Ben löst jedes Problem mit Gewalt, während die übrigen sehr viel reflektierter mit den Problemen umgehen, indem sie über Recht und Unrecht, Leben und Tod und die kommerziellen Aspekte der Religion diskutieren. Bobby wünscht sich jedoch mehr vom Leben und flieht aus dem Juweliergeschäft seines Vaters nach Hollywood, wo er für seinen Onkel, den mächtigen Agenten Phil (Steve Carell), arbeitet. Schnell verliebt er sich in Phils charmante Assistentin Vonnie (Kristen Stewart), die bereits einen Freund hat, sodass die beiden nur gute Freunde werden. Freunde findet Bobby auch in Rad (Parker Posey), die eine Modellagentur betreibt, und ihrem Mann, dem wohlhabenden Produzenten Steve (Paul Schneider). Als Vonnies Freund sich von ihr trennt, springt Bobby in die Lücke und bemüht sich um sie, schließlich gibt sie seinem Werben nach. Er macht ihr einen Antrag und will mir ihr nach New York ziehen. Sie findet das Angebot zwar verlockend, doch es läuft nicht alles so glatt wie geplant. Mit gebrochenem Herzen kehrt Bobby nach New York zurück und jobbt für Ben, der sich mit brachialen Mitteln einen Nachtclub unter den Nagel gerissen hat. Bobby beweist sein Naturtalent als Impresario und macht den Club unter dem neuen Namen 'Les Tropiques' im Handumdrehen zum angesagtesten Lokal der Stadt. Rad stellt ihm die schöne Salonlöwin Veronica (Blake Lively) vor, der er eifrig den Hof macht. Obwohl Bobby Vonnie noch nicht vergessen hat, heiratet er Veronica, als die gesteht, dass sie schwanger ist. Für beide beginnt ein wirklich ungetrübtes Leben, in jeder Beziehung scheint Bobby sein Glück gefunden zu haben, bis zu dem Abend, als Vonnie im 'Les Tropiques' auftaucht.

The new New York City prank by master director Woody Allen, the bittersweet romance 'Café Society', stars Jesse Eisenberg as James, Kristen Stewart as Theresa and Blake Lively as Kat in Hollywood in the '30s. 'Café Society' premiered at the 69th Cannes Film Festival on May 11, 2016. The focus is on Bobby Dorfman (Jesse Eisenberg), who comes to Hollywood from the Bronx, falls in love, returns to New York and indulges in the glittering nightclub ambience of high society. The dazzling existence of Bobby's Bronx family is a sparkling declaration of love to the movie stars, salon lions, playboys, debutantes, politicians and gangsters who embodied the exuberant attitude to life and glamour of that era. Bobby's family consists of the always mercilessly quarreling parents Rose (Jeannie Berlin) and Marty (Ken Stott), his casually amoral gangster brother Ben (Corey Stoll), his kind-hearted teacher-sister Evelyn (Sari Lennick) and her spiritualized husband Leonard (Stephen Kunken). Ben, who is brushed on riot, solves every problem with violence, while the others deal with the problems in a much more reflective way by discussing right and wrong, life and death and the commercial aspects of religion. However, Bobby wants more from life and flees from his father's jewelry store to Hollywood, where he works for his uncle, the powerful agent Phil (Steve Carell). He quickly falls in love with Phil's charming assistant Vonnie (Kristen Stewart), who already has a boyfriend, so the two become only good friends. Bobby also makes friends in Rad (Parker Posey), who runs a modeling agency, and her husband, the wealthy producer Steve (Paul Schneider). When Vonnie's boyfriend breaks up with her, Bobby jumps into the gap and tries to get her, finally giving in to his wooing. He proposes to her and wants to move to New York with her. She finds the offer tempting, but not everything goes as smoothly as planned. With a broken heart, Bobby returns to New York and works for Ben, who has grabbed a nightclub with brute force. Bobby proves his natural talent as an impresario and makes the club the hippest place in town in no time at all under the new name 'Les Tropiques'. Rad introduces him to the beautiful salon lioness Veronica (Blake Lively), whom he eagerly courts. Although Bobby hasn't forgotten Vonnie yet, he marries Veronica when she confesses she's pregnant. For both of them, a really untroubled life begins, Bobby seems to have found his happiness in every respect, until the evening when Vonnie shows up at 'Les Tropiques'.
