Für die junge, attraktive Philosophie-Studentin Barbara Dray (Louise Bourgoin), die gerade ihre Abschlussarbeit schreibt, und ihren Freund Nicolas Malle (Pio Marmaï) trifft dies nicht zu. Für beide ist das Leben unbeschwert und voller Glück bis sie eines Tages beschließen Eltern zu werden, denn von da an ist nichts mehr, wie es vorher war. Die Liebe scheint perfekt, die Freude über die Schwangerschaft ist anfangs groß, doch Barbara bekommt Zweifel. In der Öffentlichkeit mimt sie zwar die Rolle der glücklichen werdenden Mutter, aber die Realität sieht anders aus. Aus Barbaras Sicht absurde Geburtsvorbereitungskurse, ein brachliegendes Sexualleben, ständige Arztbesuche, bevormundende Krankenschwestern, eine nicht ganz zurechnungsfähige Hippiemutter und eine Schwiegermama, die alles besser weiß - so hatte sich Barbara ihre Schwangerschaft wirklich nicht vorgestellt. Als Lea zur Welt kommt, wird das Chaos noch größer und Barbara fragt sich ernsthaft: Warum, zum Teufel, hat mich niemand gewarnt...
Ehrlich, sensibel und humorvoll porträtiert 'Un heureux événement - Ein freudiges Ereignis' das Elternwerden und Elternsein in der modernen Welt. Rémi Bezançon ('Love Is in the Air' 2005, 'C'est la vie - So sind wir, so ist das Leben' 2008) inszeniert einen Film voller komischer Momente, ohne dabei die Ernsthaftigkeit des Themas aus den Augen zu verlieren. Having a desired child is still the most beautiful event for happily in love couples - or is it? This is not the case for the young, attractive philosophy student Barbara Dray (Louise Bourgoin), who is currently writing her thesis, and her boyfriend Nicolas Malle (Pio Marmaï). For both of them, life is carefree and full of happiness until one day they decide to become parents, because from then on nothing is the same as it was before. The love seems perfect, the joy of the pregnancy is great at first, but Barbara begins to have doubts. In public, she mimics the role of the happy mother-to-be, but the reality is different. From Barbara's point of view, absurd birth preparation courses, a fallow sex life, constant visits to the doctor, patronizing nurses, a hippie mother who is not quite sane and a mother-in-law who knows everything better - Barbara really hadn't imagined her pregnancy like this. When Lea is born, the chaos gets even bigger and Barbara seriously wonders: Why the hell didn't anyone warn me...
Honest, sensitive and humorous, 'Un heureux événement - A joyful event' portrays becoming and being a parent in the modern world. Rémi Bezançon ('Love Is in the Air' 2005, 'C'est la vie' 2008) directs a film full of comic moments, without losing sight of the seriousness of the subject. 'A Joyful Event' is a very personal film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Eliette Abeccassis with a wonderful and powerful Louise Bourgoin ('Little Nick' 2009, 'Adèle and the Secret of the Pharaoh' 2010, 'The Cursed 3rd Year' 2011).
