Once upon a time there was a mother who had two daughters. Marie was industrious and warm-hearted, Louise, on the other hand, was lazy and nasty. One day, Marie spins wool until her fingers bleed. Then the coil falls into the well. While trying to fish them out, Marie also falls into the depths. She ends up in the realm of Mother Hulda, where animals, loaves and trees can speak. How Mother Hulda rewards Marie, but Luise is punished and how bad luck can still be turned into happiness is shown in this endearing remake of the Grimm fairy tale.
