Die 15-jährige Mia (Luna Wedler) steht vor einem überwältigenden Umbruch, der ihre ganze Existenz in Frage stellt. Ihr Körper verändert sich radikal. Auch wenn sie verzweifelt versucht, die Verwandlung aufzuhalten, muss sie bald akzeptieren, dass die Natur stärker ist. Kurz vor den Sommerferien zieht sie mit ihren Eltern in eine neue Stadt. Ihre Eltern sind ihr längst fremd geworden und auf die Frage, ob sie adoptiert sein könnte, reagiert ihre Mutter verletzt, ohne aber zu antworten. Mia stürzt sich ins wilde Teenagerleben um Anschluss zu finden. Doch dann beginnt sich ihr Körper seltsam zu verändern. Erst kaum merklich, dann aber mit einer massiven Wucht. In ihrer Verzweiflung versucht sie sich mit Sex und Drogen zu betäuben, um aufzuhalten, was wie eine Flutwelle über sie hereinbricht. Doch die Natur ist stärker und Mias Verwandlung schreitet unaufhaltsam voran...
Lisa Brühlmanns Coming of Age-Debütfilm 'Blue My Mind' (2017) ist eine absolute Arthouse-Entdeckung, sowohl in Bezug auf die Regisseurin als auch auf die Hauptdarstellerin Luna Wedler. Wedler war eine der European-Shooting-Stars der Berlinale 2018, gewann den Schweizer Filmpreis als beste Hauptdarstellerin und spielt außerdem die Hauptrolle im Kinofilm 'Das schönste Mädchen der Welt' mit dem deutschen Kinostart am 6. September 2018. 'Blue My Mind' hatte seine Weltpremiere auf dem Filmfestival San Sebastián, war der große Abräumer beim Schweizer Filmpreis und gewann u.a. den Regiepreis des Max-Ophüls-Festivals. Zahlreiche Preise und Festivals folgten. Regisseurin Brühlmann über ihren Film: "Ich wollte einen weiblichen Befreiungsfilm machen. Im Zentrum meines Films steht das Gefühl des Eingesperrt seins. Eingesperrt in einer Welt, die voller Systemzwänge und Regeln ist. Wo man, gerade heute als junger Mensch, hineinpassen muss, sich anpassen soll; einem Druck gehorchend, den ich insbesondere in der Schweiz empfinde, diesem kleinen und reichen Land. Für mich steht die Meerjungfrau als Symbol der Sehnsucht nach Freiheit, nach der weiblichen Urkraft und einer Welt ohne Grenzen jeglicher Art. Das Zurückfinden zur Natur und zu seiner eigenen Natur ist mein Hauptanliegen. In 'Blue My Mind' geht es auch um die Angst, nicht dazuzugehören. Und um den tiefen Wunsch geliebt zu werden und dabei sich selber sein zu dürfen. Ich will, dass die Zuschauer am eigenen Leib erfahren, wie es sich anfühlt, in Mias Haut zu stecken. Dabei sollen sie noch einmal durchleben, was es bedeutet, erwachsen zu werden. Um das zu ermöglichen, habe ich die Figuren mit meinen eigenen Erinnerungen an die wilde und bewegende Teenagerzeit aufgeladen. Gleichzeitig habe ich mich an der heutigen Generation von Teenagern orientiert, welche ich über mehrere Tage zur Recherche begleitet habe. Ich wollte, dass sich dieser Film sinnlich anfühlt, voller Poesie und gemischt mit einem Gefühl der Unmittelbarkeit: Irgendwo, irgendwie auf dieser Welt passiert diese Geschichte tatsächlich."

Even though she desperately tries to stop the transformation, she soon has to accept that nature is stronger. Shortly before the summer holidays, she moves to a new city with her parents. Her parents have long since become strangers to her and when asked whether she could be adopted, her mother reacts hurt, but without answering. Mia plunges into the wild teenage life to make friends. But then her body begins to change strangely. At first hardly noticeable, but then with a massive force. In her desperation, she tries to numb herself with sex and drugs to stop what is hitting her like a tidal wave. But nature is stronger and Mia's transformation progresses inexorably...
Lisa Brühlmann's coming-of-age debut film 'Blue My Mind' (2017) is an absolute arthouse discovery, both in terms of the director and the lead actress Luna Wedler. Wedler was one of the European Shooting stars of the Berlinale 2018, won the Swiss Film Award for Best Actress and also plays the leading role in the feature film 'The Most Beautiful Girl in the World' with the German theatrical release on September 6, 2018. Numerous prizes and festivals followed. Director Brühlmann about her film: "I wanted to make a female liberation film. At the center of my film is the feeling of being locked up. Locked up in a world full of system constraints and rules. Where, especially today as a young person, you have to fit in, where you have to adapt; obeying a pressure that I feel especially in Switzerland, this small and rich country. For me, the mermaid stands as a symbol of the longing for freedom, for the feminine elemental power and a world without borders of any kind. Finding your way back to nature and to your own nature is my main concern. 'Blue My Mind' is also about the fear of not belonging. And about the deep desire to be loved and to be allowed to be oneself. I want the audience to experience first-hand what it feels like to be in Mia's shoes. In doing so, they should relive what it means to grow up. To make that possible, I charged the characters with my own memories of the wild and moving teenage years. At the same time, I oriented myself towards today's generation of teenagers, whom I accompanied for several days for research. I wanted this film to feel sensual, full of poetry and mixed with a sense of immediacy: somewhere, somehow in this world, this story actually happens."
