Woanders weiß man selbst, wer man ist - hier wissen es die anderen. Das ist Heimat. Stefan (Lucas Gregorowicz), ein mehr oder weniger erfolgreicher Schauspieler am Theater, er könnte einer der Jungs aus 'Kleine Haie' sein, muss zurück nach Bochum, um das Haus seines verstorbenen Vaters zu verkaufen. In vier Tagen soll alles abgewickelt sein und er wieder im Zug zurück nach München sitzen. Das war der Plan. 'Sommerfest' erzählt von einem Wochenende im Pott, von einer Rückkehr in die Heimat, dem Wiedersehen mit skurrilen und doch liebenswerten Weggefährten, von Fußball und Musik und natürlich großen Gefühlen - nach dem gleichnamigen Roman von Frank Goosen. Neben Lucas Gregorowicz ('Schrotten!', 'Lammbock') als Heimkehrer Stefan Zöllner stehen Anna Bederke ('Blochin', 'Soul Kitchen') als seine Jugendliebe Charlie sowie Nicholas Bodeux ('Zeiten ändern dich'), Peter Jordan, Sandra Borgmann, Jasna Fritzi Bauer und viele andere gemeinsam vor der Kamera. Sönke Wortmann ('Frau Müller muss weg', 'Deutschland - Ein Sommermärchen', 'Das Wunder von Bern') zeichnete sowohl für die Regie als auch das Drehbuch verantwortlich. Gedreht wurde bis Ende Juni 2016 an 28 Drehtagen in Bochum, Mühlheim und Köln. Das Projekt wurde gefördert von der Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, finanziert mit Mitteln der FFA Filmförderungsanstalt, Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien und dem Deutschen Filmförderfonds.

In four days, everything should be settled and he should be back on the train back to Munich. That was the plan. 'Summer Festival' tells of a weekend in the Pott, of a return to the homeland, the reunion with bizarre yet lovable companions, of football and music and, of course, great emotions - based on the novel of the same name by Frank Goosen. In addition to Lucas Gregorowicz ('Schrotten!', 'Lammbock') as returnee Stefan Zöllner, Anna Bederke ('Blochin', 'Soul Kitchen') as his childhood sweetheart Charlie as well as Nicholas Bodeux ('Times Change You'), Peter Jordan, Sandra Borgmann, Jasna Fritzi Bauer and many others are in front of the camera together. Sönke Wortmann ('Frau Müller muss weg', 'Deutschland - Ein Sommermärchen', 'Das Wunder von Bern') was responsible for both the direction and the screenplay. Filming took place until the end of June 2016 on 28 days of shooting in Bochum, Mühlheim and Cologne. The project was funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, financed with funds from the FFA Filmförderungsanstalt, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and the German Film Fund.
