Der Witwer Josef (Burghart Klaußner) lebt nach dem Tod seines Sohnes und seiner Frau allein in einer großen Villa am Waldrand. Einsamkeit und Trauer bestimmen sein Leben. Eines Tages bekommt er Besuch. Auf dem Friedhof trifft er auf Nina (Heike Trinker), die sich als Cousine seiner verstorbenen Frau vorstellt. Ihre ehrliche Anteilnahme und fürsorgliche Art sind für Josef ein mehr als willkommener Lichtblick. Nach kurzer Zeit lernt Josef Ninas Sohn Simon (David Imper) und seine wunderschöne, aber geheimnisvolle Frau Milena (Anna Wappel) kennen. Das junge Ehepaar zieht kurzerhand bei Josef ein, denn sie leben sehr beengt. Josef hat mehr als genug Platz und man ist ja schließlich eine Familie. Nina wird zum Dauergast und bringt bald ihren Freund Konstantin (Merab Ninidze) mit, der sich ebenfalls gleich wie zu Hause fühlt. Anfangs genießt Josef das bunte Treiben und als auch noch Milenas Sohn das Haus mit Energie ausfüllt, empfindet er sogar so etwas wie Lebensfreude. Doch bald schon irritieren ihn seine Gäste. Zwischen ihnen herrschen undurchschaubare Spannungsverhältnisse. Ihr Umgang miteinander ist geheimnisvoll und merkwürdig aggressiv. Bald schon versuchen sie, Josef für sich zu gewinnen - auf mal skurrile, mal unheimliche Weise. Nina macht ihm eindeutige Avancen, doch Josef ahnt, dass es um mehr als Sex geht. Josef muss sich für eine Seite entscheiden, bevor er den gefährlichen Machtspiele seiner Gäste unwiederbringlich ausgeliefert ist...

After the death of his son and his wife, the widower Josef (Burghart Klaußner) lives alone in a large villa on the edge of the forest. Loneliness and grief determine his life. One day he gets a visitor. At the cemetery he meets Nina (Heike Trinker), who introduces herself as the cousin of his deceased wife. Her honest sympathy and caring manner are a more than welcome ray of hope for Josef. After a short time, Josef meets Nina's son Simon (David Imper) and his beautiful but mysterious wife Milena (Anna Wappel). The young couple moves in with Josef without further ado, because they live very cramped. Josef has more than enough space and you are a family after all. Nina becomes a permanent guest and soon brings her boyfriend Konstantin (Merab Ninidze) with her, who also feels at home right away. At first, Josef enjoys the hustle and bustle and when Milena's son fills the house with energy, he even feels something like joie de vivre. But soon his guests irritate him. There are inscrutable tensions between them. Their dealings with each other are mysterious and strangely aggressive. Soon they try to win Josef over - in sometimes bizarre, sometimes sinister ways. Nina makes clear advances to him, but Josef suspects that it's about more than sex. Josef has to choose a side before he is irretrievably at the mercy of the dangerous power games of his guests...
Ditto Tsintsadze's 'Invasion' is German high-voltage cinema in intoxicating images and with treacherous wit. Director Tsintsadze succeeds in creating a poetic cinema of anxiety and romantic shivers that is unique in the German film landscape.
