Im Jahr 1850 ist die berühmte Pianistin und Komponistin Clara Schumann (Martina Gedeck) mit ihrem Mann Robert Schumann (Pascal Greggory) und ihren Kindern auf dem Weg nach Düsseldorf. Nach vielen anstrengenden Jahren auf Tournee will Robert dort eine feste Stelle als städtischer Musikdirektor antreten. Doch nach ihrem letzten Konzert in Hamburg lernt Clara den 14 Jahre jüngeren Johannes Brahms (Malik Zidi) kennen, dessen Talent auch ihren Mann begeistert. Aber Brahms ist nicht nur Claras Virtuosität am Klavier verfallen...
Musik, Liebe, Eifersucht, Drama: Die Lebensgeschichte der Clara Schumann ist schon an sich großes Kino. Regisseurin und Drehbuchautorin Helma Sanders-Brahms (siehe u.a. 'Deutschland bleiche Mutter'), selbst Nachfahrin von Johannes Brahms, erweckt diese Geschichte hier mit 'Geliebte Clara' (2008) zu fulminantem Leben auf der großen (Heimkino-)Leinwand. In der Hauptrolle beeindruckt Martina Gedeck (aus 'Der Baader Meinhof Komplex'). Pascal Greggory ('La Vie en Rose') und Malik Zidi ('Tropfen auf heiße Steine') spielen die zwei wichtigsten Männer ihres Lebens: Robert Schumann und Johannes Brahms.

In 1850, the famous pianist and composer Clara Schumann (Martina Gedeck) is on her way to Düsseldorf with her husband Robert Schumann (Pascal Greggory) and their children. After many strenuous years on tour, Robert wants to take up a permanent position as municipal music director there. Music, love, jealousy, drama: Clara Schumann's life story is great cinema in itself. Director and screenwriter Helma Sanders-Brahms (see, among others, 'Germany Pale Mother'), herself a descendant of Johannes Brahms, brings this story to brilliant life on the big (home cinema) screen with 'Geliebte Clara' (2008). Martina Gedeck (from 'The Baader Meinhof Complex') impresses in the leading role. Pascal Greggory ('La Vie en Rose') and Malik Zidi ('Drops on Hot Stones') play the two most important men of their lives: Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms.
