Als der brillante Wissenschaftler Professor Charles Decker (Michael Gough) nach einem Flugzeugabsturz wider Erwarten aus dem afrikanischen Dschungel nach London zurückkehrt, bringt er das Wissen um seltsame Pflanzensäfte und einen jungen Schimpansen namens 'Konga' in die Zivilisation mit. Die Zuneigung seiner Mitarbeiterin Margaret (Margo Johns) kalt ignorierend, stürzt sich Decker sofort in seine Forschungen, die ein aus fleischfressenden Pflanzen gewonnenes Wachstumsserum hervorbringen, das schon bald an Konga getestet wird. Und tatsächlich wächst der Schimpanse zu einer Art Gorilla heran. Decker will nun seine Entdeckung öffentlich machen und dafür benötigt er die finanzielle Unterstützung der Universität. Als ihm diese versagt bleibt, wird der Dekan durch den willenlos gemachten Konga getötet. Dies stellt erst den Anfang einer Mordserie dar, durch die Decker Rivalen jeglicher Art beseitigt. Margaret schweigt aus Liebe und aus Angst, als Komplizin zur Rechenschaft gezogen zu werden. Als sie jedoch feststellen muss, dass Decker sich zur blonden Studentin Sandra Banks (Claire Gordon) hingezogen fühlt und dieser nachstellt, kommt es zur Katastrophe. Die vor Eifersucht rasende Margaret impft Konga eine Überdosis des Wachstumsserums und setzt damit ein Ungeheuer frei, das ganz London in Schrecken versetzt. Konga, nun ein Gorilla von der Größe Big Bensm, ist außer Kontrolle und London scheint verloren...
Mit 'Konga' (1961) erleben B-Movie-Fans einen weiteren Horrorklassiker aus der Werkstatt des legendären Produzenten Herman Cohen. Er verarbeitete in diesem Film die Thematik des monsterschaffenden wahnsinnigen Genies, nachdem er mit 'I Was a Teenage Werewolf - Der Tod hat schwarze Krallen' (1957) und 'Blood of Dracula' (ebenfalls 1957) bereits anderen Ikonen des Horrorfilms zu neuem Leben verhalf. When the brilliant scientist Professor Charles Decker (Michael Gough) returns to London from the African jungle after a plane crash, he brings the knowledge of strange plant juices and a young chimpanzee named 'Konga' with him to civilization. Coldly ignoring the affection of his colleague Margaret (Margo Johns), Decker immediately throws himself into his research, which produces a growth serum derived from carnivorous plants that will soon be tested on Konga. And indeed, the chimpanzee is growing into a kind of gorilla. Decker now wants to make his discovery public and for this he needs the financial support of the university. When he is denied this, the dean is killed by the willless Konga. This is only the beginning of a series of murders through which Decker eliminates rivals of all kinds. Margaret remains silent out of love and out of fear of being held accountable as an accomplice. However, when she realizes that Decker is attracted to the blonde student Sandra Banks (Claire Gordon) and stalks her, disaster strikes. Margaret, furious with jealousy, inoculates Konga with an overdose of the growth serum, unleashing a monster that terrifies all of London. Konga, now a gorilla the size of Big Bensm, is out of control and London seems lost...
With 'Konga' (1961), B-movie fans will experience another horror classic from the workshop of legendary producer Herman Cohen. In this film, he dealt with the theme of the monster-creating mad genius, after he had already given new life to other icons of horror films with 'I Was a Teenage Werewolf' (1957) and 'Blood of Dracula' (also 1957). In the role of the unscrupulous Prof. Charles Decker, genre great Michael Gough, who was already in front of the camera for Cohen's production 'Horrors of the Black Museum' (1959), shines.
