Als der Kronzeuge eines wichtigen US-Prozesses mitsamt seiner Familie in die Luft gesprengt wird, hat FBI-Agent Matt Benson (Harvey Keitel) eine schwierige Aufgabe vor sich. Auf der kleinen italienischen Insel 'Panarea' soll er den Sohn des Opfers und einzigen Überlebenden treffen und zum Reden bringen. Denn die ermittelnden Behörden sind überzeugt, dass das Kind im Besitz brisanter Informationen ist. Benson, der seine Frau und die fünfjährige Tochter Tina mitgebracht hat, nimmt Ettore in seine Familie auf. So will er ihn beschützen und sein Vertrauen gewinnen. Doch auch der erst elfjährige Junge weiß um die Gefahr, die allzu große Redseligkeit mit sich bringen kann.
