Sein ganzes Leben lang hat der pensionierte Straßenbauingenieur Angus Stewart (Richard Dreyfuss) davon geträumt, als Astronaut ins All zu fliegen. Nun, mit 75 Jahren, rückt die Erfüllung seiner Sehnsucht plötzlich noch einmal in greifbare Nähe: Im ersten kommerziellen Weltraumflug des visionären Selfmade-Milliardärs Marcus Brown (Colm Feore) soll der letzte Platz über eine Fernsehlotterie vergeben werden. Wann, wenn nicht jetzt, denkt sich Angus, der gerade auf Initiative seiner Tochter Molly (Krista Bridges) wegen gesundheitlicher Probleme in ein Altersheim umziehen musste. Mithilfe kleiner Tricks und seines Enkels Barney Williams (Richie Lawrence) kommt er tatsächlich als ältester Bewerber in die Vorauswahl um das begehrte Freiflugticket. Doch nicht nur sein Gesundheitszustand macht Angus zu schaffen, kurz vor dem Launch entdeckt er eine gefährliche Schwachstelle in Marcus' Raumfahrtprojekt. So beginnt ein Wettlauf gegen die Zeit, in dem nicht nur Angus' Flug zu den Sternen auf dem Spiel steht...
Oscar-Gewinner Richard Dreyfuss, der in Steven Spielbergs Filmen 'Der weiße Hai' (1975) auf Monsterjagd ging und in 'Unheimliche Begegnung der dritten Art' (1977) in ein UFO stieg, folgt in dieser herzerwärmenden Tragikomödie erneut dem Ruf des Weltalls. Gemeinsam mit Regisseurin Shelagh McLeod, die mit 'Astronaut' (2019) im Alter von 59 Jahren ihr Spielfilmdebüt realisierte, zeigt er, dass Wünsche kein Verfallsdatum haben und es nie zu spät ist, um noch einmal Anlauf zu nehmen.

Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss, who hunted monsters in Steven Spielberg's films 'Jaws' (1975) and climbed into a UFO in 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' (1977), once again heeds the call of space in this heartwarming tragicomedy. Together with director Shelagh McLeod, who made her feature film debut with 'Astronaut' (2019) at the age of 59, he shows that wishes have no expiration date and that it is never too late to try again.
