Nach dem Tod des Großvaters zieht der 13-jährige Jake Jardine (Theo Taplitz) mit seinen Eltern von Manhattan nach Brooklyn in das alte Haus des Opas. Dort freundet er sich mit dem gleichaltrigen Tony Calvelli (Michael Barbieri) an, dessen Mutter eine kleine Schneiderei im unteren Stockwerk betreibt. Obwohl die Jungs sehr unterschiedlich sind - Jake ist ruhig und in sich gekehrt, Tony impulsiv und abenteuerlustig - sind die beiden sofort unzertrennlich. 'Little Men - Junge Männer' (2016) ist bereits der dritte New York Film, den Regisseur Ira Sachs zusammen mit Mauricio Zacharias geschrieben hat. Nach den schwulen Liebesdramen 'Keep the Lights On' (2012) und 'Love is Strange' (2014) porträtiert er in diesem dritten Film mit großem Feingefühl die innige und tief prägende Freundschaft zwischen zwei Jungen vor deren sexuellem Erwachen. After the gay love dramas 'Keep the Lights On' (2012) and 'Love is Strange' (2014), in this third film he portrays with great sensitivity the intimate and deeply formative friendship between two boys before their sexual awakening. With his humanistic perspective, Sachs looks not only at the magic of childhood, but also at the challenges of parenthood and the dangers of gentrification, which increasingly uniforms Brooklyn's formerly diverse migrant neighborhood.
