Six months after Matthew Crawley's (Dan Stevens) tragic death, the whole of 'Downton Abbey' mourns him. Mary (Michelle Dockery) is inconsolable at first, but with the help of her family she manages to gain new courage to face life and later take on a new role at the country estate. The spirit of optimism of the 20s also captures 'Downton Abbey' and Rose MacClare's (Lily James) enthusiasm for the lights of the big city puts the Crawleys in dire straits.
