What is now part of the ultimate ambience in the clubs, the video jockey and his video samples shown on large screens, was already appreciated by the discos of the 70s. Because the DEFA studio for documentary films produced an unusual genre: so-called disco films. As cheeky music clips, ambitious art films and expressive documentaries, these films were not only intended for the cinema pre-programme in the 70s and 80s. Today they convey an authentic picture of an emerging music video culture and are now simply cult.
