'Undercover Brother' (2002), eine smart-satirische Blaxploitationkomödie von Regisseur Malcolm D. Lee nach dem gleichnamigen Internet-Cartoon von John Ridley. Der beträchtliche Unterhaltungswert liegt nicht zuletzt darin begründet, dass schwarze und weiße Rassenstereotype unparteiisch mit der gleichen Vehemenz aufgegriffen werden. Die blendende Besetzung und ein vorzüglicher Funksoundtrack tragen zudem zum Gelingen der Parodie im Stil von 'Austin Powers' bei. Hauptdarsteller Eddie Griffin amüsiert mit trockenem Witz, gutem Timing und kreischenden Kung-Fu-Einlagen. Die zündende Dynamik wird zudem vom Rest der Besetzung unterstützt, namentlich Bond-Girl Denise Richards als 'White She Devil', Dave Chappelle als 'Conspiracy Brother' und Gary Anthony Williams als 'Smart Brother'. Alle drei versehen ihre Rollen mit einem Maximum an selbstparodistischem Humor, und selbst Funklegende James Brown, der als er selbst auftritt, nimmt sich nicht allzu ernst. Wie sein Auftritt vermuten lässt, handelt es sich bei der Musikzusammenstellung nur vom Feinsten aus dem Bereich Soul und Funk, womit die in einer Montage zitierten Blaxploitationklassiker auch akustisch gewürdigt werden.

'Undercover Brother' (2002), a smart-satirical blaxploitation comedy by director Malcolm D. Lee based on the Internet cartoon of the same name by John Ridley. The considerable entertainment value is not least due to the fact that black and white racial stereotypes are taken up impartially with the same vehemence. The dazzling cast and an excellent funk soundtrack also contribute to the success of the parody in the style of 'Austin Powers'. Lead actor Eddie Griffin amuses with dry wit, good timing and screaming kung fu interludes. The igniting dynamic is also supported by the rest of the cast, namely Bond girl Denise Richards as 'White She Devil', Dave Chappelle as 'Conspiracy Brother' and Gary Anthony Williams as 'Smart Brother'. All three provide their roles with a maximum of self-parodic humor, and even funk legend James Brown, who appears as himself, doesn't take himself too seriously. As his performance suggests, the music compilation is only the finest from the field of soul and funk, which also pays acoustic tribute to the blaxploitation classics quoted in a montage.
