Amanda (Monica Potter) arbeitet als Kunstrestauratorin in New York. Sie ist eine hübsche, intelligente junge Frau, die zwar im Job erfolgreich ist, aber in ihrem Privatleben sieht es ziemlich düster aus: immer wieder gerät sie an die falschen Männer. Ihren letzten Lebensgefährten hat sie gerade mit einer anderen Frau in ihrem eigenen Bett erwischt - und als Amandas Freund sich ausgerechnet mit 'Es ist nicht so wie es aussieht' ausreden will, reicht es ihr endgültig. Amanda beschließt, sich nach einer neuen Bleibe umzusehen, mitten in Manhattan nicht gerade einfach. Ausnahmsweise scheint das Glück auf ihrer Seite zu sein. Zuerst stolpert sie über ein bezahlbares freies Zimmer in einem Luxusappartement, das von vier superschönen, total überdrehten Models bewohnt wird, und kurz darauf über den charmanten Jim (Freddie Prinze Jr.), oder besser gesagt: dessen Hund. Das das Zimmer eigentlich der Wandschrank der Wohnung ist und Jim sich ein klein wenig merkwürdig verhält, kann Amandas Glück zunächst nicht trüben. Doch eines Abends meint sie, aus ihrem Fenster heraus zu beobachten, wie Jim einen Mord begeht. Dummerweise kann die Polizei in Jims Wohnung weder Blutspuren noch eine Leiche entdecken. Aber Amanda wird das Gefühl nicht los, dass an der ganzen Geschichte irgendetwas oberfaul ist. Also macht sie sich gemeinsam mit ihren vier Mitbewohnerinnen (Shalom Harlow, Sarah O'Hare, Ivana Milicevic und Tomiko Fraser) auf, das vermeintliche Verbrechen selbst aufzuklären. Und dann kommt alles anders, als gedacht: Jim ist nicht der, für den er sich ausgibt, im Modebusiness mischt die russische Mafia mit und eine Leiche erweist sich als quicklebendig. Mittendrin: eine Blondine und vier Models auf Verbrecherjagd. Ob das gut geht?

Amanda (Monica Potter) works as an art restorer in New York. She is a pretty, intelligent young woman who is successful in her job, but in her private life things look pretty bleak: again and again she gets into the wrong men. She has just caught her last partner in her own bed with another woman - and when Amanda's boyfriend wants to talk himself out of it with 'It's not as it looks', she has finally had enough. Amanda decides to look for a new place to stay, not exactly easy in the middle of Manhattan. For once, luck seems to be on their side. First she stumbles across an affordable spare room in a luxury apartment inhabited by four super-beautiful, totally over-the-top models, and shortly afterwards over the charming Jim (Freddie Prinze Jr.), or rather: his dog. The fact that the room is actually the closet of the apartment and Jim behaves a little strangely can't dampen Amanda's happiness at first. But one evening she thinks she is watching Jim commit a murder from her window. Unfortunately, the police can't find traces of blood or a body in Jim's apartment. But Amanda can't shake the feeling that there is something rotten about the whole story. So she sets out together with her four roommates (Shalom Harlow, Sarah O'Hare, Ivana Milicevic and Tomiko Fraser) to solve the alleged crime themselves. And then everything turns out differently than expected: Jim is not who he claims to be, the Russian mafia is involved in the fashion business and a corpse turns out to be alive and kicking. In the middle of it all: a blonde and four models on the hunt for criminals. Will that go well?
