Yara (Emma Drogunova) ist 17 und lebt mit ihrem Vater, der aus Albanien stammt, und den drei Geschwistern in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg. Neben ihrem Job im Supermarkt schmeißt sie den Familienhaushalt und vertreibt sich die Freizeit mit ihrer Clique. Als sie eines Tages auf der Straße der toughen Kiki (Sarah Mahita) begegnet, ist plötzlich nichts mehr wie zuvor. Die beiden Mädchen verlieben sich auf den ersten Blick. Während Yara in der Beziehung eine neue, bislang ungekannte Freiheit entdeckt, erlebt Kiki, die in Jugendheimen aufgewachsen ist, das erste Mal das Gefühl von echter Nähe und Zugehörigkeit. Aber niemand darf von der Liebe etwas wissen, vor allem nicht Yaras konservativer Vater, der schon einen Ehemann für sie ausgesucht hat, oder ihr Bruder Bekim (Slavko Popadic), der selbst ein Auge auf Kiki geworfen hat. Regisseur Ali Hakim, der selbst in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg aufgewachsen ist, erzählt in 'Bonnie & Bonnie' (2019) eine berührende Geschichte von zwei jungen Frauen, die wie ihre filmhistorischen Vorbilder Bonnie und Clyde ins Weite aufbrechen müssen, um ihre Liebe zu leben. Yara (Emma Drogunova) is 17 and lives with her father, who comes from Albania, and their three siblings in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg. In addition to her job in the supermarket, she runs the family household and spends her free time with her clique. When she meets the tough Kiki (Sarah Mahita) on the street one day, suddenly nothing is the same as before. The two girls fall in love at first sight. While Yara discovers a new, previously unknown freedom in the relationship, Kiki, who grew up in youth homes, experiences the feeling of real closeness and belonging for the first time.
