Gegensätzlicher könnten die Lebenswelten von Marion und Baran kaum sein, als sie sich am Strand von 'Marmaris' zum ersten Mal begegnen. Marion (Anne Ratte-Polle), die selbstbewusste, unabhängige Pilotin aus Deutschland, trifft auf Baran (Ogulcan Arman Uslu), den charmanten Aufreißer wider Willen, der von einem besseren Leben jenseits des 'Bosporus' träumt. Zielstrebig bittet er Marion, ihn mit nach Deutschland zu nehmen. Und sie lässt sich auf dieses Wagnis ein, ganz gegen ihre sonst so überlegte, reservierte Art, und schließt einen Deal mit ihm. Vielleicht, weil sie gerade selbst dazu gezwungen ist, ihr bisheriges Leben zu überdenken? Marions Dauer-Affäre Raphael (Godehard Giese) wird von der neuen Situation vollkommen überrascht. Der junge deutsche Regisseur Ilker Çatak erhielt 2014 für seinen Kurzfilm 'Wo wir sind' eine Nominierung für den Studenten-Oscar und gewann den Kurzfilmwettbewerb des Filmfestivals Max-Ophüls-Preis. Ein Jahr später konnte er für seinen Film 'Sadakat' sowohl den begehrten Studenten-Oscar, als auch erneut den Max-Ophüls-Preis und den renommierten First-Steps-Award mit nach Hause nehmen. Sein Spielfilm 'Es war einmal Indianerland' (2017) ist bereits hier im Verleihprogramm zu erleben. In den Hauptrollen seines neuen Kinofilms 'Es gilt das gesprochene Wort' (2019) sind die brillante Anne Ratte-Polle (aus 'Die Nacht singt ihre Lieder') und Çataks Entdeckung Arman Uslu zu sehen, mit ihnen spielen Godehard Giese ('Transit'), Özgür Karadeniz ('Dogs of Berlin'), Jörg Schüttauf ('Der Staat gegen Fritz Bauer'), Sebastian Urzendowsky ('Babylon Berlin') und Johanna Polley ('Bad Banks') vor der Kamera von Florian Mag.

The worlds of Marion and Baran could hardly be more contrasting when they meet for the first time on the beach of 'Marmaris'. Marion (Anne Ratte-Polle), the self-confident, independent pilot from Germany, meets Baran (Ogulcan Arman Uslu), the charming reluctant hooker who dreams of a better life beyond the 'Bosporus'. He single-mindedly asks Marion to take him with him to Germany. And she takes this risk, quite contrary to her otherwise so deliberate, reserved manner, and makes a deal with him. Perhaps because she herself is forced to rethink her life so far? Marion's long-term affair Raphael (Godehard Giese) is completely surprised by the new situation. Baran gives everything to take advantage of the chance for a new life offered to him. This impresses Marion - her reluctance begins to crumble and the two get closer than planned...
The young German director Ilker Çatak received a nomination for the Student Oscar in 2014 for his short film 'Where We Are' and won the short film competition of the Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival. A year later, he was able to take home the coveted Student Oscar, as well as the Max Ophüls Prize and the renowned First Steps Award for his film 'Sadakat'. His feature film 'Once Upon a Time in Indianerland' (2017) can already be seen here in the distribution programme.
