Patrice Olesky (Kad Merad) und Eric Drigeard (Franck Dubosc) sind Freunde seit ihrer Schulzeit. Inzwischen sind sie in gesetzterem Alter und ihre Lebenswege haben unterschiedliche Richtungen genommen. Patrice ist ein etablierter Arzt, treuer Ehemann und Familienvater, während Erics wechselnde Freundinnen immer jünger und seine Steuerschulden immer höher werden. Beide treibt eine gewisse Unzufriedenheit um, bis sie nach einem weinseligen Abend die Kellertreppe hinunter und durch ein Zeitloch ins Jahr 1986 zurück stürzen. Es folgt das komplette Programm: Musik von 'Desireless', Jeanswesten voller Aufnäher, Mädchen mit aufgeplusterten Frisuren, Rollschuh-Disco, Abiturnoten und andere bizarre Dinge. Aber auch die Chance, die Weichen für die Zukunft noch einmal anders zu stellen...
Was würden Sie tun, wenn Sie noch einmal 17 wären und alles wieder auf Anfang stehen würde? Würden Sie Ihr Leben mehr oder weniger genauso leben oder möchten Sie vieles anders machen? Diese Fragen treiben unsere Protagonisten Patrice und Eric um. Daneben lauern eine Menge Alltagshürden und Fettnäpfchen, wenn man sich als Erwachsener im Körper eines 17-Jährigen im Jahr 1986 wiederfindet. Es gibt Ärger mit den Eltern, das Telefon ist fest an seinem Platz verkabelt, unterwegs ist man auf Telefonzellen und Kleingeld angewiesen und für den angesagten Nachtclub ist man zu jung. Und wer glaubt einem 17-Jährigen schon, dass er in Wahrheit ein erfahrener Gynäkologe ist, der bei der unfreiwilligen Hausgeburt helfend eingreifen kann. Aus dem 1980er-Szenario zieht Regisseur Dominique Farrugia viel Situationskomik, die seine beiden Hauptdarsteller, Komödianten im besten Sinne des Wortes, genüsslich ausspielen. Doch auch die leisen Töne kommen nicht zu kurz. Ein "sanfter Irrsinn", so ein französischer Kritiker, regiert in dieser besinnlichen Komödie für alle, die in den 80ern dabei waren. What would you do if you were 17 again and everything was back to square one? Would you live your life more or less the same way or would you like to do many things differently? These are the questions that drive our protagonists Patrice and Eric.
