Janey Glenn (Sarah Jessica Parker) eine verzogene Göre, flippt fast aus, als sie mit ihrer Familie nach Chicago zieht. Denn dort wird DIE Tanzshow schlechthin für das Fernsehen produziert: 'Dance TV'. Schnell findet sie in der neuen Stadt eine neue beste Freundin, Lynne Stone (Helen Hunt). Die beiden können es nicht fassen, denn 'Dance TV' veranstaltet ein Casting! Janey setzt sich gegen ihren eher strengen und konservativen Vater durch, nimmt teil und schafft es bis ins Finale. Da steht er plötzlich vor ihr, ihr Tanzpartner Jeff (Lee Montgomery), ein absoluter Traummann. Der allerdings hat ein Auge auf die reiche und schöne Natalie (Holly Gagnier) geworfen. Die will das Finale unbedingt gewinnen und dafür ist ihr jedes Mittel recht. So muss sich Janey gegen ihren Vater und die Sabotage-Aktionen ihrer Konkurrentin beim Tanzen und in der Liebe durchsetzen...

Janey Glenn (Sarah Jessica Parker), a spoiled brat, almost freaks out when she moves to Chicago with her family. Because that's where THE dance show par excellence for television is produced: 'Dance TV'. She quickly finds a new best friend in the new city, Lynne Stone (Helen Hunt). The two can't believe it, because 'Dance TV' is organizing a casting! Janey prevails against her rather strict and conservative father, participates and makes it to the final. Suddenly, he stands in front of her, her dance partner Jeff (Lee Montgomery), an absolute dream man. However, he has his eye on the rich and beautiful Natalie (Holly Gagnier). She wants to win the final at all costs and she is willing to use any means to do so. So Janey has to assert herself against her father and the sabotage actions of her competitor in dancing and in love...
