Nach einem missglückten Coup sitzt Dieb Cuma (Robert Wieckiewicz) ein. Auf einem Freigang wegen Krankheit plant er den Diebstahl des Da-Vinci-Bildes 'Die Dame mit dem Hermelin' und fragt seinen Freund Julian (Borys Szyc), ob dieser einsteigen möchte. Was er zunächst nicht weiß: Julian ist mittlerweile ein Polizist. Dieser gibt sich aber schnell als solcher zu erkennen und willigt dennoch in den Diebstahl ein. Cuma plant das Bild gegen eine Kopie zu ersetzen, weswegen er einen Kunstfälscher engagiert. Was Cuma allerdings nicht ahnt, ist, dass Julian nicht nur eine, sondern zwei Kopien bei dem Meisterfälscher Hagen (Jan Machulski) und seiner Enkelin in Auftrag gibt. Damit werden seine Beweggründe Cuma zu unterstützen klar. Indem er nämlich insgeheim gegen Cuma arbeitet, will er es schaffen, dass das Originalbild da bleibt, wo es hingehört: in Polen. Nachdem der spektakuläre und brillant durchdachte Coup trotz einiger Unwägbarkeiten gelungen ist, wird eines offensichtlich: Nicht nur Julian hat sein eigenes Süppchen gekocht.

After a failed coup, thief Cuma (Robert Wieckiewicz) is imprisoned. While on leave due to illness, he plans to steal the Da Vinci painting 'The Lady with an Ermine' and asks his friend Julian (Borys Szyc) if he would like to get in. What he doesn't know at first: Julian is now a police officer. However, he quickly reveals himself as such and still agrees to the theft. Cuma plans to replace the painting with a copy, which is why he hires an art forger. What Cuma does not suspect, however, is that Julian commissions not one, but two copies from the master forger Hagen (Jan Machulski) and his granddaughter. This makes his motives for supporting Cuma clear. By secretly working against Cuma, he wants to ensure that the original painting stays where it belongs: in Poland. After the spectacular and brilliantly thought-out coup has succeeded despite some imponderables, one thing becomes obvious: Julian is not the only one who has cooked his own soup.
