'Oh Happy Day', der zweite Film der dänischen Regisseurin Hella Joof ('Shake It All About'), ist Gospel für Anfänger, eine himmlisch-romantische Komödie mit Suchtcharakter und eine Liebeserklärung an die Gospelmusik. Die 80er-Jahre Pop-Ikone Rick Astley ('Never Gonna Give You Up') komponierte den Sondtrack und steuerte eigene Songs zum Film bei, die neben Gospelklassikern von Mahalia Jackson und Edwin Hawkins zu hören sind.

Faith, love and gospel music: Hannah (Lotte Andersen) has long since made peace with her boring family life in a Danish provincial town. The rehearsal of the local church choir is their highlight of the week. Winning two tickets to the concert of a real American gospel choir is the highlight of the year, and Hannah is overwhelmed by the rousing music and the exuberant joie de vivre of the black musicians. And then all hell literally breaks loose in Hannah's life - or heaven - represented by Moses Jackson (Malik Yoba), this damn good-looking preacher and director of the professional choir from Harlem, who gets stuck in her godforsaken church of all places and breathes the soul of gospel into the weakening church choir. 'Oh Happy Day', the second film by Danish director Hella Joof ('Shake It All About'), is gospel for beginners, a heavenly romantic comedy with an addictive character and a declaration of love to gospel music. 80s pop icon Rick Astley ('Never going to Give You Up') composed the soundtrack and contributed her own songs to the film, which can be heard alongside gospel classics by Mahalia Jackson and Edwin Hawkins.
