Jay Trotter (Richard Dreyfuss), who has just been in marital war with his wife Pam (Teri Garr), receives a very hot tip from his taxi colleague Looney (David Johansen). Looney records the conversations of his passengers on tape without their knowledge. The horse mentioned here wins against all expectations. The betting reward paves the way for Jay to join the posh hockey club and leads him to further betting victories. The women of the club take a liking to Trotter. Then Pam appears there at the wrong moment and almost causes a scandal. An attempt by Jay to put the relationship back on track fails. But when he has once again put everything on victory, Pam appears at the racetrack - just at the right moment to celebrate.
