Der 19-jährige Tommy (Anson Boon) genießt sein Leben als Krimineller und treibt seine Freunde immer wieder zu grausamen Gewalttaten an - bis er eines Nachts von einem Fremden namens Chris (Stephen Graham) entführt wird. Als Tommy erwacht, findet er sich angekettet im Keller eines abgelegenen Vorstadthauses wieder, in dem Chris mit seiner Frau Kathryn (Andrea Riseborough) und ihrem jungen Sohn Jonathan lebt. Die Familie setzt alles daran, Tommys unkontrolliertes Verhalten zu 'reformieren' und unterzieht ihn zahlreichen psychologischen Spielen, um aus ihm einen 'braven Jungen' zu machen. Während Tommy sich mit allen Mitteln dagegen wehrt, wird er immer tiefer in die dysfunktionale Familiendynamik von Chris, Kathryn und Jonathan hineingezogen, aber auch mit seinen eigenen Sehnsüchten konfrontiert. Und schleichend merkt Tommy, dass seine Gefühle zwischen Hass und Sympathie, zwischen Fluchtreflex und dem Bedürfnis nach Nähe verschwimmen...

When Tommy wakes up, he finds himself chained up in the basement of a remote suburban house where Chris lives with his wife Kathryn (Andrea Riseborough) and their young son Jonathan. The family does everything they can to 'reform' Tommy's uncontrolled behaviour and subjects him to numerous psychological games to make him a 'good boy'. While Tommy defends himself against this by all means, he is drawn deeper and deeper into the dysfunctional family dynamics of Chris, Kathryn and Jonathan, but also confronted with his own longings. And Tommy gradually realizes that his feelings blur between hatred and sympathy, between flight reflex and the need for closeness...
With 'Good Boy' (2025), Oscar-nominated director Jan Komasa ('Corpus Christi') presents a provocative social drama that has already been compared to Kubrick's 'Clockwork Orange' by 'The Guardian'. The theatrical release in Germany will take place on May 7, 2026.
