Der Film begleitet Pyroraptoren, Daspletosaurier, Velociraptoren und Saltasaurier bei ihren abenteuerlichen Reisen auf drei Kontinenten.
Teil 1 - Der Vulkanausbruch: Patagonien vor 80 Millionen Jahren. Für Alpha und ihre Geschwister beginnt das Leben in einem ausgetrocknetem Flussbett. Von ihrer Geburt bis ins Erwachsenenalter wird Alphas Leben in bewegenden und authentisch wirkenden Bildern geschildert.
Teil 2 - Flucht vor der Monsterwelle: Südeuropa vor 80 Millionen Jahren. Nach einem Erdbeben vernichtet eine gewaltige Monsterwelle Lebensraum und Artgenossen des kleinen Pyroraptoren Pod. Als einer von wenigen Überlebenden seiner Art muss er feststellen, dass sich seine Lebensumstände dramatisch geändert haben.

'The Last Years of the Dinosaurs' uses elaborate animation technology to bring four dinosaur species from the Cretaceous Period back to life. The film accompanies pyroraptors, daspletosaurs, velociraptors and saltasaurs on their adventurous journeys on three continents.
Part 1 - The volcanic eruption: Patagonia 80 million years ago. For Alpha and her siblings, life begins in a dried-up riverbed. From her birth to adulthood, Alpha's life is portrayed in moving and authentic-looking images.
Part 2 - Escape from the monster wave: Southern Europe 80 million years ago. After an earthquake, a huge wave of monsters destroys the habitat and conspecifics of the small pyroraptor Pod. As one of the few survivors of his kind, he has to realize that his life circumstances have changed dramatically.
