Etwa 200 Jahre v. Chr. ist der chinesische Kaiser Qin auf der Suche nach einem Elixier, welches ihm Unsterblichkeit verliehen soll. Ein junges Mädchen stiehlt dieses Elixier und soll darum hingerichtet werden. Doch ein tapferer General des Kaisers verliebt sich unsterblich in sie und bevor sie stirbt, kann sie ihm noch den Zaubertrank geben. Er wird unsterblich, in Lehm eingeschmiert und für Tausende von Jahren ein Terracotta-Wächter am Grabe Qins. In den 30er Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts: Eine Filmcrew um die leicht chaotische Schauspielerin Lili Chu (Gong Li) dreht in der Nähe der Grabstätte. Durch eine Unachtsamkeit öffnet sie eine Kammer des Grabes und erweckt damit den Krieger. Dieser erkennt in Lili eine Reinkarnation seiner Geliebten und weicht von nun an nicht mehr von ihrer Seite...
Regisseur Ching Siu-Tung, der Filmemacher hinter der berühmten 'Chinese Ghost Story' Trilogie, drehte mit 'Dynasty Warrior' (1989) einen wunderbaren Mix aus Fantasyfilm, Romanze und Komödie mit viel Action und Gefühl. In den Hauptrollen brillieren die bezaubernde Gong Li (aus 'Rote Laterne' und 'Hannibal Rising') und Zhang Yimou, der selbst als Regisseur durch Werke wie 'Hero' oder 'House of Flying Daggers' weltberühmt wurde.

Around 200 years BC, the Chinese Emperor Qin is looking for an elixir that will give him immortality. A young girl steals this elixir and is to be executed for it. But a brave general of the emperor falls madly in love with her and before she dies, she can give him the magic potion. He becomes immortal, smeared in clay and a terracotta guardian at Qin's tomb for thousands of years. In the 30s of the 20th century: A film crew around the slightly chaotic actress Lili Chu (Gong Li) shoots near the gravesite. Through a carelessness, she opens a chamber of the tomb and thus awakens the warrior. He recognizes Lili as a reincarnation of his lover and from now on does not leave her side...
Director Ching Siu-Tung, the filmmaker behind the famous 'Chinese Ghost Story' trilogy, shot a wonderful mix of fantasy film, romance and comedy with a lot of action and emotion with 'Dynasty Warrior' (1989). The enchanting Gong Li (from 'Red Lantern' and 'Hannibal Rising') and Zhang Yimou, who himself became world famous as a director through works like 'Hero' or 'House of Flying Daggers', shine in the leading roles.
