Gangster Wo (Nick Cheung Ka-Fai) aus Hongkong ist mit Kind und Kegel nach Macao ausgewandert, teils um den neuen Machthabern zu entgehen, teils weil ihm daheim der Triadenboss Fay (Simon Yam) nach dem Leben trachtet. Als Fay erfährt, dass Wo in Macao sitzt, schickt er ihm die Killer Blaze (Anthony Wong) und Fat (Lam Suet) hinterher. Blaze war früher ein guter Freund von Wo, weshalb sich seine Begeisterung für den Auftrag in Grenzen hält. Lieber würden er und seine Kumpels jene Tonne Gold abgreifen, die korrupte Politiker gerade nach Macao schaffen...
Wortkarge Schurken, die im verschlafenen Macao tödliche Kugeln austauschen, knallharte Action mit deutlichen Anlehnungen an das Western-Genre - 'Exiled' (2006) ist ein klassischer Film von Johnnie To, dem wohl bekanntesten Regisseur Hongkongs, der sogar auf eine Oscar-Nominierung hoffen durfte. In der Kategorie 'Bester nicht englischsprachiger Film' reichte Hongkong den Film ein, der bereits 2006 bei den Filmfestspielen in Venedig für einen 'Goldenen Löwen' nominiert war und den Hongkong-Film-Award für die beste Regie erhielt. Für To wäre es die erste Nominierung bei den 'Academy Awards'. In 'Exiled' zieht sich Auftragskiller Wo (Nick Cheung) aus dem knallharten Geschäft ins Familienleben zurück. Triadenboss Fay (Simon Yam) kann dies jedoch nicht akzeptieren und schickt Wos ehemalige Freunde ihn zu töten. Ihnen stehen Tai und Cat gegenüber, die Wo beschützen wollen. In dessen Wohnung kommt es zum Showdown. Die 'Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' gab am 22. Januar 2008 bekannt, welche acht Filme aus insgesamt 95 Kandidaten die Chance auf den bedeutendsten Filmpreis der Welt erhielten. Die 80. Academy-Award-Verleihung fand anschließend am 24. Februar 2008 statt. 'Kinowelt Home Entertainment' hat 'Exiled' hier im Verleihprogramm auf DVD veröffentlicht. Der stilvolle Actionkrimi glänzt mit unvergleichlichen Bildern und einer einzigartigen Atmosphäre.

On January 22, 2008, the 'Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' announced which eight films from a total of 95 candidates were given the chance to win the world's most important film award.
