What made his era so depressing is the immensity of terror and suffering, the subjugation of many peoples and the murder of millions. Fifty years after his death, the three-part documentary series of ZDF paints the portrait of a man who, along with Adolf Hitler, is considered the second criminal of the century. It conveys the ambivalent image of that era. The film titles 'The Myth' and 'The Tyrant' as well as 'The Warlord' reflect the facets of the subject of 'Stalin': the authors draw a comprehensive psychogram of the dictator and document how appearance and reality in Stalin's empire diverged ever further.
