Der Regisseurin Evelyn Schels, bekannt durch Künstlerporträts wie 'Georg Baselitz' (2013), gelingt es, in ihrem Film 'Body of Truth' (2019) vier herausragende Künstlerinnen zu beschreiben, in ihre Biographien einzuführen und dabei ihre Verletzlichkeit fühlbar zu machen. Mittels weiblicher, körperlicher Kunst befassen sie sich mit Themen wie den Jugoslawienkriegen, dem Nahost-Konflikt, der iranischen Revolution und dem Faschismus. Themen, die nach wie vor virulent sind und deren Verwandlung in brisante Kunst filmisch erzählt wird. 'Body of Truth' ist ein Film über vier starke Frauen, die sich von den Zwängen ihrer Geschichte befreien und auf diesem Weg einzigartige Kunstwerke schaffen. Dieser Film eröffnet uns mit seiner klaren Fragestellung über die politische Kraft der Kunst mit dem Körper einen neuen Blick - nicht nur auf die Kunst, sondern auch auf unsere gesellschaftliche Wirklichkeit. Schels' Dokumentarfilm feierte seine Festivalpremiere auf dem Filmfest Hamburg und seine Internationale Premiere auf dem 'DOC NYC', gezeigt wurde er ebenfalls auf dem Kasseler 'DOK Fest' 2019. 'Body of Truth' sollte am 2. April 2020 bundesweit in ausgewählten Kinos starten, wurden dann allerdings aufgrund der Corona-Ereignisse um diesen Zeitpunkt herum auf unbestimmte Zeit verschoben.

In her film 'Body of Truth' (2019), director Evelyn Schels, known for artist portraits such as 'Georg Baselitz' (2013), succeeds in describing four outstanding female artists, introducing them to their biographies and making their vulnerability palpable. Through feminine, physical art, they deal with topics such as the Yugoslav wars, the Middle East conflict, the Iranian revolution and fascism. Topics that are still virulent and whose transformation into explosive art is told on film. 'Body of Truth' is a film about four strong women who free themselves from the constraints of their history and create unique works of art in the process. With its clear question about the political power of art with the body, this film opens up a new perspective - not only on art, but also on our social reality. Schels' documentary celebrated its festival premiere at Filmfest Hamburg and its international premiere at the 'DOC NYC', it was also shown at the Kassel 'DOK Fest' 2019. 'Body of Truth' was supposed to open in selected cinemas nationwide on April 2, 2020, but was then postponed indefinitely due to the Corona events around that time.
