Als frischgebackener Absolvent der englischen Literaturwissenschaft nimmt Liam Somers (Daryl McCormack) eine Stelle als Hauslehrer für Bertie an, den verwöhnten, mürrischen Sohn seines literarischen Idols, des Starautors J.M. Sinclair (Oscar-Nominee Richard E. Grant). Um Bertie bestmöglich für seine Aufnahmeprüfung vorbereiten zu können, zieht Liam kurzerhand auf den mondänen Landsitz der Sinclairs. Wenn er nicht gerade den wenig motivierten Bertie unterrichtet, kann er an seinem eigenen ersten Roman arbeiten. Regie bei 'The Lesson - Große Künstler stehlen' (2023) führte die BAFTA-nominierte Showrunnerin Alice Troughton, bekannt u.a. für ihre Arbeit an 'Cucumber' (für 'Channel 4'), 'The Living and the Dead' ('BBC'), 'Doctor Who ('BBC'), 'Bagdad nach dem Sturm' ('Channel 4') und 'Midwich Cuckoos - Das Dorf der Verdammten' ('Sky Max'). Mit dem britischen Psychothriller 'The Lesson' präsentiert sie nun ihr Kinodebüt. Ebenfalls sein Langfilmdebüt als Drehbuchautor gibt Alex MacKeith. Er war Finalist des Sir Peter Ustinov Scriptwriting-Award bei den internationalen 'Emmys' 2020. Sein Debüt als Theaterautor gab er 2017 mit dem Stück 'School Play'. MacKeith ist auch als Stand-up-Künstler überaus erfolgreich: Sein Programm 'Thanks for Listening' zeigte er im Produktionsjahr 2023 am rennomierten Londoner 'Soho Theatre'. Dieser Kinofilm ist eine Produktion von 'Poison Chef Productions' (UK), 'Egoli Tossell Pictures' (DE) und 'Jeva Films' (UK) in Zusammenarbeit mit 'Film Constellation' (UK). Gefördert wurde der Film von der 'MOIN' Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, dem 'UK Global Screen Fund', der 'BFI Locked Box Initiative' sowie dem Deutschen Filmförderfonds. Gedreht wurde der Thriller im Sommer 2022 in Hamburg und Umgebung. Seine Weltpremiere feierte 'The Lesson' im Juni 2023 auf dem Tribeca-Filmfestival und startet am 26. Oktober 2023 im Verleih der 'Port au Prince Pictures' bundesweit in den deutschen Kinos.

As a recent graduate in English literature, Liam Somers (Daryl McCormack) takes a job as a tutor for Bertie, the spoiled, grumpy son of his literary idol, star author J.M. Sinclair (Oscar nominee Richard E. Grant). In order to be able to prepare Bertie in the best possible way for his entrance exam, Liam moves to the Sinclairs' sophisticated country estate. When he's not teaching the unmotivated Bertie, he can be working on his own first novel. In addition, Liam hopes to be able to win over the increasingly reclusive Sinclair as a mentor for himself. But Liam soon realizes that he is entangled in a tight-knit web of family secrets, resentment and retribution. With the British psychological thriller 'The Lesson', she now presents her cinema debut. Alex MacKeith also makes his feature film debut as a screenwriter. He was a finalist for the Sir Peter Ustinov Scriptwriting Award at the 2020 International Emmys. He made his debut as a playwright in 2017 with the play 'School Play'. MacKeith is also extremely successful as a stand-up artist: he showed his program 'Thanks for Listening' in the production year 2023 at London's renowned 'Soho Theatre'. This feature film is a production of 'Poison Chef Productions' (UK), 'Egoli Tossell Pictures' (DE) and 'Jeva Films' (UK) in cooperation with 'Film Constellation' (UK). The film was funded by the 'MOIN' Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, the 'UK Global Screen Fund', the 'BFI Locked Box Initiative' and the German Film Fund. The thriller was filmed in the summer of 2022 in Hamburg and the surrounding area.
