Hardly any other city has such an exciting history as Berlin. For 28 years, the Wall divided the political systems and the people in East and West. The divided city is always both: cosmopolitan city and neighborhood, world politics and everyday life, the scene of historical events and private experiences. The 60s are marked by the construction of the Wall and adventurous escapes. It is the time of reconstruction, of rock'n'roll, miniskirt and large student protests. Many celebrities visit the city: John F. Kennedy, Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev, Martin Luther King, Queen Elizabeth II, the 'heavenly siblings' Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin and Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova. Colour television is introduced both in West Berlin and two years later in East Berlin.
